Professional Position Details: The Opportunity: As the Finance and Budget Manager you will provide comprehensive financial leadership and oversight across pre-award and post-award sponsored programs, as well as business office operations for the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). You manage the full lifecycle of grant and contract funding, including proposal development, budget preparation, financial analysis, compliance monitoring, and award closeout, ensuring adherence to federal, state, sponsor, and institutional regulations. You oversee the preparation and submission of a high volume of grant proposals, developing complex, compliant budgets and providing strategic guidance to principal investigators. In your post-award work, you lead financial management of sponsored accounts, including expenditure tracking, reporting, subcontract oversight, and resolution of complex fiscal and compliance issues. You also serve as a key liaison between departments and central administrative offices to ensure effective coordination and regulatory compliance. You direct business office operations, including process improvement, resource management, and staff supervision. You are responsible for developing and implementing policies, procedures, and financial controls to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery. This role requires you to bring strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, support strategic financial planning, and foster collaboration across diverse stakeholders. Additional Information: This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible. Monthly Salary: $4,942.10 - $7,569.55 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Ability to work on weekends or holidays when needed. Preferred Qualifications: Work experience in a medical and/or veterinary office setting. Work experience in a higher education environment. Work experience with Federal and State grants and contracts. Strong computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience using CoreOne for Labs or a similar medical database. Demonstrated experience using Workday. Demonstrated supervisory skills Experience with utilizing a Quality System and using and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
