Utility Pre-Inspector | Lake Arrowhead, CA

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform tree assessments along utility lines and submit inspection results with recommendations. Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of assigned tree clearance crews. Discuss line-clearance crew access issues and act as liaison between clients, crews, and customers. Patrol distribution and/or transmission circuits and prescribe work for contract tree crews. Determine when the next trim is required, notify property owners of tree trimming and brush removal work per client specifications, and manage issuance of work orders while tracking progress. Map circuits using client continuity lists, perform outage investigations, and obtain permits from public agencies when necessary. Enter tree trimming and brush removal prescriptions into hand-held computers or similar systems and use computer software to perform duties. Comply with all regulatory requirements and client vegetation management standards. Participate in public presentations and meetings when required. Attain certification as an Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture within 1 year or upon eligibility. Perform emergency response duties as requested by the Senior Utility Pre-Inspector or Manager, in accordance with all safety requirements, laws, regulations, and labor agreements. Maintain a positive personal impression on others and adhere to attendance policies, ensuring timely arrival and compliance with work hour requirements. Conduct work safely to avoid endangering self or others, keeping the work area—office and/or company vehicle—neat, orderly, and professional. Ensure maintenance of company vehicles is done promptly and efficiently when applicable. Perform other duties as required. Equipment, Environmental and Safety Requirements Drive cars, trucks, and/or all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). Walk on uneven ground. Operate in environments with excessive noise and extreme temperatures, humidity, or wetness. Use foot controls or perform repetitive foot movements. Exposed to dust, gas, fumes, chemicals. Operate forestry equipment such as clinometers, range finders, logger’s tapes, DBH tapes, and safety equipment including hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses, ear plugs. Qualifications Must be 21 years of age or older. Minimum 1 year of Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) or related field experience. Minimum 2-year degree or 4 years of arboriculture or related field experience in lieu of a degree. Ability to identify local trees and understand desired growth rates. Ability to work independently with strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather. Map interpretation skills; perform data collection using various software platforms. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a 4x4 vehicle. Basic use of Excel (sum, totals, simple formulas) and Outlook; proficiency in Microsoft Word. Required Skills Identify local trees and growth rates. Occasional kneeling, crawling, sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing. Occasional lifting and carrying 0‑25 lbs; never 26‑100 lbs. Frequent carrying 0‑10 lbs; occasional 0‑25 lbs; never 26‑100 lbs. Heaviest item carried: handheld computer weighing 2.5 lbs and/or maps with a clipboard. Items carried while walking in the field. Salary and Benefits Salary Range : $24/hour to $28/hour (California residents only).
