About the Role:
The Transportation & Roads Technician supports the Public Works & Transportation Planner Director by coordinating with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), researching programs, grants, and funding opportunities, and assisting with special projects. The position also helps maintain the Tribe’s transportation inventory and supports departmental goals and programs as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare, proofread, and maintain correspondence, reports, grants, contracts, and other departmental documents.
  • Provide administrative support for Public Works, Transportation, Facilities, grants, contracts, and projects.
  • Coordinate with Tribal departments, government agencies, consultants, and other partners on projects and program activities.
  • Monitor grants and contracts for compliance, deadlines, budgets, expenditures, reports, and required documentation.
  • Prepare and track budgets, invoices, expenditures, project schedules, grant requirements, and reporting deadlines.
  • Coordinate consultant assignments, invoices, plan submittals, project schedules, and related communications.
  • Maintain accurate departmental, grant, contract, and project records and files.
  • Support federal and Tribal transportation programs, including transportation planning, roadway maintenance, and improvement projects.
  • Maintain and update GIS and transportation data using ArcGIS, including the National Tribal Transportation Facility Inventory.
  • Conduct fieldwork and collect roadway and transportation data as needed.
  • Schedule meetings, maintain calendars, prepare meeting minutes, and provide general administrative support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Core Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field required.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with budgets including, but not limited to, required reports, budget modification, etc., required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in IT, software management, data collection, program compliance, or program oversight required.
  • Must possess certification in basic ARC-GIS software or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • College level Principles of Accounting I and II preferred.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and an insurable driving record according to Tribal Insurance guidelines.
  • Must complete the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.
Essential Competencies:
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality and demonstrate strong integrity and professionalism.
  • Excellent English, spelling, grammar, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; must pass required skills testing.
  • Knowledge of GIS, mapping, programming, and data entry preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations related to grants, contracts, and funding programs.
  • Strong organizational, project management, multitasking, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with diverse audiences.
  • Dependable, punctual, accountable, and committed to quality results.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships and contribute to high-performing teams.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
  • Must be available for 24/7 on-call assignments as needed for Tribal Government operations.
