Emergency Veterinary Technician

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Emergency Veterinary Technician role based in Cypress, TX. The Emergency Veterinary Technician will assist veterinarians with triage, examination, and treatment of emergency and critical care patients, including obtaining histories, monitoring vital signs, placing IV catheters, collecting samples, and administering medications as directed. Responsibilities include performing diagnostic procedures such as blood draws, in-house laboratory tests, radiographs, and basic nursing care like bandage changes and fluid therapy monitoring. The role also involves preparing patients and equipment for surgery or procedures, maintaining sterile technique, and providing post-operative monitoring. The technician will support client communication by explaining basic procedures and home care instructions as directed, while ensuring accurate medical recordkeeping, maintaining a clean and organized treatment area, and following all safety and infection‑control protocols. Qualifications Technical veterinary skills, including animal restraint, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, medication administration, and basic nursing care for emergency and critical patients. Clinical support capabilities such as monitoring anesthesia, assisting with diagnostic imaging, performing in‑house lab tests, and preparing patients and equipment for surgical or urgent procedures. Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and client service staff, and to support clear, empathetic communication with clients. Ability to work in a fast-paced emergency environment, including multitasking, prioritizing cases, remaining calm under pressure, and following detailed medical instructions accurately. High school diploma or equivalent; formal veterinary technology training or credentialing (LVT/CVT/RVT) preferred. Previous experience in an emergency or critical care veterinary setting is highly beneficial; general practice veterinary experience is also valuable. Willingness to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to support 24/7 emergency operations.
