Procurement Data Solutions Specialist

Overview Reporting to the Procurement Operations Business Analytics Leader, this role applies advanced analytics and AI/ML techniques to procurement and financial transaction data from multiple sources (Jaggaer, ERP/AP, P‑Card, and other auxiliary systems) to detect trends and anomalies, improve cycle times, and provide actionable decision support through dashboards, exception queues, alerts, and narrative insights for procurement strategy and operational excellence. Responsibilities Collaborate with internal stakeholders and the Jaggaer support team to configure, test and deploy reporting modules, track platform adoption and performance metrics, and gather user feedback for continuous improvement. Integrate and analyze procurement data from Jaggaer and other university systems—such as ERP, finance, grants management, supplier databases, and specialized finance systems—to develop dashboards and reports for strategic decision making and KPI tracking (spend analysis, supplier performance, service delivery). Work with IT, Finance and Institutional Research teams to ensure data accuracy, system reliability and meaningful reporting outcomes. Assess procurement workflows across university business units to identify inefficiencies, gaps and opportunities for standardization and savings. Recommend and implement process changes that enhance automation, reduce cycle times and improve user satisfaction. Apply AI tools to analyze anomaly detection, outlier analytics, classification (automated spend categorization) and NLP/document analysis. Support change‑management initiatives by translating data insights into clear narratives for decision makers and end users. Lead or contribute to training sessions, user forums and communication efforts to promote new processes and tools. Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to keep procurement solutions responsive to evolving needs. Champion a culture of continuous improvement and data‑driven decision making within the function. Principal Possibilities Collaborate with business partners and process owners to document data, reporting and BI requirements and performance targets. Develop and maintain a standard methodology for documenting and codifying requirements and specifications using standard templates that meet both business partners and ITS. Create prototypes and mock‑ups to elicit and define requirements. Partner with ITS to identify reporting and BI solutions, including evaluation of commercial off‑the‑shelf software and other solutions. Develop prototypes using reporting software and BI tools to model and iterate requirements, ensuring appropriateness of chosen solutions. Provide analytical support for development and deployment of solutions, collaborating with developers and end users to verify functionality meets business needs. Develop test cases and scenarios, actively participating in the testing and quality assurance process. Contribute to deployment planning, including training, communications and user readiness planning. Facilitate and support data stewardship and governance processes. Develop metrics to monitor data quality, analyze and resolve data quality and reporting issues. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills & Abilities Proficiency in data compilation and data visualization techniques and tools (Alteryx, PowerBI, Tableau). Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to adapt style to explain complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Exceptionally organized, with a proven ability to plan, track and meet deadlines; meticulous and thorough. Proven ability to use data and user feedback to diagnose root causes, prioritize opportunities and evaluate results, exercising sound judgment to achieve strong outcomes. Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies, tools and concepts (including NLP, ML and prompt engineering). Adaptable as priorities evolve. Required Education And Experience Bachelor’s degree in business, technology or related field and three years of experience in analysis of reporting needs and development of related business intelligence solutions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Education And Experience Experience in a financial, audit or business operations environment—particularly higher education or complex, decentralized organizations. Experience with data querying languages (SQL, Snowflake, Python). Knowledge of sourcing/contracting metrics (savings methodologies, benchmarking, supplier scorecards). Production deployment (scheduled pipelines, automated reporting, monitoring) and collaboration with IT/security. Experience using code‑based automation and data blending techniques.
