Position Description:The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is seeking a research-track Assistant Professor. We seek qualified applicants to lead basic and translational research projects towards improved understanding of neuropathology, neurodegenerative diseases, tauopathies, and progressive supranuclear palsy. The successful applicant will also be responsible for generating and assisting in new proposals for intramural and extramural research funding both as a PI and co-PI, as well as contributing to ongoing funded research activities and core laboratory oversight.
Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.
Education Requirement:
Candidates must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent) and a minimum of two years of Assistant Research Scientist or Director experience in basic and translational neuropathology research is required.
Required Qualifications:- Experience and expertise in neuropathology, neurogenerative diseases research, tauopathies, and progressive supranuclear palsy with a strong record of productivity as evidenced by publications.
- Research experience in the supervision and management of laboratories or cores and research personnel/staff, including training of new personnel and day-to-day guidance of staff.
- Demonstrated ability to compete for extramurally funded research applications, such as previous grant awards as a Research Scientist or Director on awarded federal grant or contract applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by publications and oral presentations to scientific community.
- First, or senior, author publications in neuropathology, neurogenerative diseases research, tauopathies, and/or progressive supranuclear palsy
- Demonstrated ability to assist on and/or initiate collaborative grant applications and awards
- Experience processing and sectioning brains, as well as associated histology
- Experience overseeing immunohistochemistry validation
- Experience developing workflows and procedures for lab services
- Experience implementing brain banking
- Candidates with, or with named and supported director roles on, federal grant or contract funding (or equivalent) are preferred
