Company Description Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland (BGCO) is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to helping youth become positive, engaged contributors to their community. Through three accessible flatland Oakland facilities, BGCO provides children and teens ages 6 to 17 with safe, affordable spaces to learn, grow, and receive support for academic success, character development, and healthy lifestyles. The facilities include library and learning centers, computer labs, social recreation areas, teen centers, and full gymnasiums, with the Anna Marie Branch also offering a performing arts stage and a professional music recording studio. Full- and part-time Program Directors, teen staff, and community volunteers deliver structured, year-round youth development programs ranging from tutoring and homework help to team sports, STEM activities, and safety-focused initiatives. As a result, BGCO helps young people build strong academic habits, physical fitness, positive use of free time, and timely high school graduation. Role Description The Chief of Staff is a full-time, on-site role based in Oakland, CA, supporting the Executive Director and senior leadership in advancing BGCO’s mission and strategic priorities. This role oversees key projects and initiatives, ensuring coordination across programs, operations, development, and administration, while monitoring progress against organizational goals. The Chief of Staff manages executive communications, prepares reports and presentations for the Board and stakeholders, and supports fundraising, partnership, and community engagement efforts. Day-to-day responsibilities include organizing leadership meetings, driving follow-up on decisions and action items, improving internal processes, and facilitating collaboration among program directors and administrative staff. The role also involves analyzing data to inform decisions, supporting budget and resource planning, and representing the organization in select external meetings and events. Qualifications Leadership and management skills, including experience supporting senior executives, coordinating cross-functional teams, and advancing strategic initiatives. Operational and project management skills, including planning, organizing, prioritizing, and tracking complex projects in a nonprofit or youth-serving environment. Strong communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication, presentation development, and stakeholder engagement with diverse communities. Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret data, develop insights, and recommend practical improvements to programs and operations. Relationship-building skills, including collaboration with staff, volunteers, board members, funders, and community partners. Relevant experience in nonprofit management, youth development, education, or community organizations; prior experience with Board relations and fundraising is beneficial. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive work with young people and families in urban communities.
