Senior Manager - Energy Storage Engineering

Description Job Purpose This position will be in the center of technical activities for Longroad’s rapidly growing energy storage business. The position requires in-depth knowledge of energy storage technology and familiarity with the technical challenges and risks associated with energy storage project deployment. The ideal candidate will possess an engineering background and have knowledge of energy storage technical and controls systems. Above all, the candidate must be detail oriented, conscientious, collaborative and technically proficient. Responsibilities The ideal candidate will be effective at working cross-functionally within Longroad as well as with outside vendors and stakeholders to drive Longroad’s energy storage pre-construction design efforts as well as provide technical support during construction and operation. Leads pre-construction energy storage system design efforts including energy storage systems and peripheral balance of plant Works in-depth with energy storage vendors to understand approaches to technical aspects of their solutions including balancing, SOC management and controls. Guides operations engineers on methodologies for proper operational performance tracking, performance improvements and performance testing Leads design of and ongoing testing at Longroad’s energy storage test center Engage and lead efforts with third party consultants as needed to provide incremental analytical value. Collaborate with the company’s EPC team as well as other in-house and external functional experts during project execution to help manage project deliverables such as MV electrical system designs, auxiliary power system strategies and control structure/architecture. Minimum Requirements 10 years of experience in the energy storage, microgrid and/or PV industry in an engineering or operational role at an energy storage manufacturer or within the energy storage supply chain, at an EPC or consultancy specializing in energy storage or with a project developer involved in designing and deploying standalone or paired energy storage systems. Experience in grid forming storage applications Highly knowledgeable in energy storage control applications and architectures Specific experience in energy storage system project design, sizing and/or construction. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to travel up to 20% Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering Proficient in MS Office software Characteristics Necessary for Success · Strong technical skills · Highly organized and detail oriented · Ability to communicate and translate technical information to others · Ability to build and maintain relationships with interconnecting utilities, vendors and technical consultants · Personal accountability and integrity · Ability to work within a team with a positive attitude · Enthusiastic about the renewable energy industry Other Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
