Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & Treasurer

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, executive team, and Board of Directors on financial performance, capital management, growth initiatives, and risk management.
• Develop and execute financial strategies that support the company's business plan, profitability objectives, and long-term sustainability.
• Lead annual business planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management processes.
• Evaluate potential growth opportunities, partnerships, product initiatives, and operational investments.
• Direct all accounting and financial reporting activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with statutory accounting standards.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and preparation of management reporting packages. Monitor key performance indicators, underwriting results, investment performance, expense management, and profitability metrics.
• Ensure effective financial controls, governance practices, and internal control frameworks.
• Serve as Treasurer of the company, overseeing cash management, liquidity planning, banking relationships, and investment activities.
• Monitor capital adequacy, surplus levels, and financial strength to support regulatory and rating agency expectations.
• Develop capital and liquidity strategies that align with business growth and risk appetite.
• Coordinate with external investment managers and advisors regarding portfolio performance and investment policy compliance.
• Oversee preparation and filing of statutory financial statements, annual statements, and other required regulatory filings.
• Partner with actuarial, underwriting, claims, and reinsurance functions to evaluate profitability, reserves, and financial impacts of business decisions.
• Support enterprise risk management initiatives and contribute to Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) activities, where applicable.
• Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, competitive conditions, and emerging risks impacting the company.
• Ensure compliance with state insurance department regulations, financial examination requirements, and applicable laws.
• Serve as the primary financial liaison with regulators, external auditors, tax advisors, and banking institutions.
• Support Board committees through preparation of financial presentations, analysis, and recommendations.
• Maintain effective corporate governance and financial reporting transparency.
• This position will require someone with strong leadership skills, including coaching, team building, and conflict resolution.
• Hire and train new employees in the job responsibilities.
• Prepare and conduct employee evaluations, promotions, retention, and termination activities.

Requirements:

• CPA License required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in accounting or finance with at least 5-7 years in Insurance industry.
• Solid understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
• Expertise in data analysis and data-driven decision-making. Strong ability to prepare and present accurate, reliable, and factual reports with recommendations to appropriate parties.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to successfully lead and coach a team by defining goals, setting priorities, and formulating and executing plans.
• Advanced competency in Microsoft Excel and strong analytical capabilities. Proficient in Microsoft Operating Systems and Office 365 products.
