HVAC Engineering Lead Lab Technician (2nd shift)

About This Role Carrier is seeking an experienced and dependable Lead Technician in our engineering laboratories. This role is responsible for test execution, running the chillers in water‑cooled and air‑cooled labs, setting up the test environment, calibrating equipment, and driving efficient chiller operation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in testing and troubleshooting water‑ and air‑cooled commercial chillers, as well as maintaining a safe and efficient lab environment. The 2nd shift schedule is Monday–Friday, from 3:00pm–11:30pm. What You Will Gain Competitive base pay with applicable shift premiums for 2nd shift. By driving high lab productivity and maintaining equipment uptime, you directly influence our ability to scale operations and meet global demand. Key Responsibilities Chiller test operation at high efficiency. Perform basic to moderately complex technical tasks that contribute to the planning and execution of engineering projects. Operate, inspect and maintain chillers, test setups and equipment. Work with electrical equipment, including 460‑3‑60 machinery, HVAC operation, refrigerant handling, and EPA certification. Use and calibrate laboratory equipment to measure pressure, temperature, flow and electrical measurements. Select, connect and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and refrigeration systems on the manufactured equipment. Perform loop calibration, use valves for single or double loop configuration, operate and troubleshoot power management, VFDs, boilers and valve configuration. Coach team members, collaborate with cross‑functional team and report results or issues to the relevant team to drive resolution. Advocate safe workspace, 5S and champion the corporate EHS policy. Support lab uptime by reporting instrument failures and enhancing preventive maintenance. Collect and report test status, issue reporting; apply and teach measurement techniques, test report writing, system troubleshooting. Proactively resolve testing hurdles by consulting development and other relevant process partners. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. 5+ years of experience in Chiller/HVAC operations, station and chiller and/or 5 years' experience in laboratory environment for mechanical/electrical machinery. 5+ years of experience with hand/pneumatic tools, advanced shop mathematics, complex measuring equipment, precision measuring instruments. 2+ years of experience independently leading / running chillers, reporting results, and in loop tuning and drive test cycle / loop efficiency. Preferred Qualifications AS or AAS in related technical field. Technical/Business School Certificate or Skilled Trades Apprenticeship. Technical expert in HVAC design, components and ability to lead / run the chillers. Understanding of close loop control systems, loop stability. Reading and interpreting complex drawings, schematics, and blueprints. Experience with medium voltage operations, including arc flash and lockout/tagout procedures. Pay Range The annual salary for this position is between $64,500.00–$129,500.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.
