About the Position:

Diamond A Group is seeking an experienced Field Mechanic with strong experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel and gasoline engines, heavy construction equipment, and trucks.

This is a hands-on field position for an experienced mechanic who can travel to active construction sites throughout West Texas to diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair equipment and vehicles.

The ideal candidate is a strong all-around mechanic who can independently identify and repair diesel engine, gasoline engine, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems and get equipment and trucks safely back into service.

The fleet includes excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, motor graders, mulchers, rock mulchers, rock crushers, diesel trucks, gasoline-powered trucks and vehicles, and other construction equipment.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair diesel and gasoline engines.
• Maintain and repair heavy construction equipment and trucks.
• Perform field repairs at active construction sites throughout West Texas.
• Diagnose and repair engine, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, cooling, transmission, brake, steering, suspension, and related systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled services on equipment, trucks, and other company vehicles.
• Troubleshoot equipment and vehicle problems using diagnostic equipment, service information, schematics, and hands-on testing.
• Repair and maintain excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, motor graders, mulchers, rock mulchers, rock crushers, diesel trucks, gasoline-powered trucks, and other fleet equipment.
• Respond to equipment and vehicle breakdowns in the field.
• Identify the root cause of mechanical failures and determine the appropriate repair.
• Remove, repair, rebuild, and replace defective components and parts as needed.
• Perform inspections to identify potential mechanical or safety issues before breakdowns occur.
• Complete repairs efficiently to minimize equipment and vehicle downtime.
• Perform welding, fabrication, or related repairs when within the mechanic's skill set.
• Maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Communicate with equipment operators, drivers, supervisors, and management regarding mechanical problems and repair needs.
• Maintain tools, service equipment, parts, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
• Follow company, OSHA, DOT, and jobsite safety requirements.
• Assist with shop repairs and maintenance when needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Previous professional mechanic experience working on heavy equipment and/or trucks.
• Hands-on experience with diesel and gasoline engine diagnosis and repair.
• Strong knowledge of heavy construction equipment and truck systems.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot equipment and vehicle failures in a field environment.
• Experience using diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and technical information.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and mechanic's equipment.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel to construction sites throughout West Texas.
• Ability to work outdoors and perform repairs in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
• Ability to submit to required background screening following a conditional offer of employment, including a federal background check.
• Ability to submit to required drug screening following a conditional offer of employment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to Have:

• Experience maintaining and repairing Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Case, Volvo, or similar heavy construction equipment.
• Experience repairing both diesel and gasoline-powered trucks and vehicles.
• Experience working on mulchers, vegetation-control equipment, rock mulchers, and rock crushers.
• Strong hydraulic and electrical diagnostic skills.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
• Experience with highway, heavy civil, earthwork, or construction equipment fleets.
• Class A CDL.

Physical & Work Requirements:

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy tools, parts, and equipment as required.
• Ability to climb on, under, and around heavy equipment and trucks.
• Ability to kneel, crouch, bend, stand, and work in physically demanding positions.
• Ability to work outdoors in West Texas heat, cold, wind, rain, and dust.
• Ability to safely work around active construction sites, moving equipment, trucks, and roadway traffic.
• Ability to respond to field breakdowns and work extended hours when required by project and equipment needs.
