Custodian Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:


To maintain school buildings and systems to provide an excellent environment for school operations and to provide a clean, safe environment for students, staff and visitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned custodial personnel;

• Establishes and maintains daily, weekly, and periodic custodial schedules and procedures for assigned buildings;

• Performs and assists with custodial duties as needed to maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and proper operation of assigned facilities;

• Inspects assigned buildings and facilities regularly to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and proper completion of custodial duties;

• Monitors custodial work and provides direction, training, and feedback to ensure established cleaning standards and procedures are followed;

• Coordinates custodial coverage and assignments to ensure adequate staffing for regular operations, special activities, and events;

• Assists with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training of custodial personnel;

• Communicates with site administrators regarding custodial needs, building conditions, maintenance or repair concerns, and special cleaning requirements;

• Reports maintenance, repair, safety, or security concerns promptly to the appropriate administrator or maintenance personnel;

• Assists in developing and implementing summer cleaning programs and schedules;

• Performs and supervises deep cleaning and periodic custodial projects, including floor care, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, moving furniture, and similar duties;

• Assists in selecting custodial supplies and equipment and maintains an appropriate inventory;

• Monitors the proper use, care, and maintenance of custodial equipment and supplies;

• Ensures custodial staff follow established safety procedures, proper chemical handling practices, and applicable health and sanitation requirements;

• Assists administration with athletic events, activities, special events, and other facility needs as assigned;

• Ensures assigned facilities are properly secured, including closing and locking windows and doors as appropriate;

• Has access to and operates a District vehicle as needed to perform assigned job duties;

• Demonstrates good safety habits and uses personal protective equipment as needed;

• Identifies and attends relevant professional development, training, workshops, and conferences related to custodial operations and supervision, as encouraged or required by the District;
• Provides ongoing training and instruction to custodial staff regarding cleaning procedures, equipment operation, chemical safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and District expectations;

• Ability to successfully lift and maneuver 50 pounds;

• Able to ascend and descend ladders and stairs;

• Operates vehicles in accordance with Arizona Highway Traffic Division regulations as well as Wickenburg Unified School District policies and rules, when applicable;

• Complies with all rules, regulations, and policies of the Governing Board;

• Other duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

• Maintains valid Arizona Drivers License;
• Ability to pass a background check and maintain a current Fingerprint Clearance Card.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required;
• Minimum of two years of experience in the maintenance of large buildings preferred, with experience in a school district preferred;
• Minimum of two years experience with educational or commercial construction preferred;
• Minimum of two years administration experience preferred.

• Computer Skills - Demonstrated competency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and typing.

• Communication Skills - Speak, read and write in English. Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals. Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.

• Math Ability - Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

• Reasoning Ability - Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms. Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.

• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

• Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally will stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Employee will frequently interact with the public and other staff members. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
