About the Position

Surgical Technologist – Non-Certified: Job Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room, surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment according to safety and infection control standards.

• Maintain a sterile field and follow aseptic techniques throughout surgical procedures.

• Perform surgical scrub duties and assist surgeons by anticipating their needs and passing instruments and supplies.

• Assist with ophthalmic surgical procedures, including preparing specialized instruments and equipment used in eye surgery.

• Inspect and maintain surgical instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning and readiness.

• Assist the registered nurse with patient preparation, positioning, transfers, and surgical counts.

• Handle and prepare surgical specimens for laboratory analysis according to established procedures.

• Identify and report breaks in sterile technique and participate in surgical time-out and patient safety procedures.

• Follow established sterilization, disinfection, and infection prevention protocols.

• Assist with operating room turnover, cleaning, restocking, and inventory management.

• Support the surgical team during emergencies and comply with facility policies and safety regulations.

• Maintain accurate documentation and protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.

• High school diploma or GED.

• Graduate of an approved Surgical Technologist training program.

• Minimum of one year of related clinical experience, including surgical scrub experience in an ambulatory surgery facility.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Ophthalmology surgical experience and skills are required.

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred but not mandatory.

• Knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical instruments, infection control, and operating room procedures.

• Ability to work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, and other members of the surgical team.

• Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

• Ability to assist with patient positioning, transfers, and other physical duties associated with the operating room.

• Basic computer skills and knowledge of patient confidentiality requirements.
