Job Title: Sewing Machine Operator Job Description This role leads the fabrication of intricate aerospace components using a variety of industrial sewing machines and hand tools, with a strong focus on zero-defect quality and strict adherence to aerospace standards. You will configure, operate, and maintain industrial sewing and fabrication equipment, work from complex work instructions and engineering blueprints, and ensure that every component meets demanding performance and durability requirements under extreme operating conditions. Responsibilities Lead and execute the fabrication of intricate aerospace components using diverse industrial sewing machines, applying rigorous precision standards and continuous quality monitoring to achieve zero defects. Perform complex assembly operations that combine industrial sewing machine use with expert hand-tool manipulation to meet internal standards and stringent aerospace customer quality requirements. Execute intricate assembly procedures using specialist knowledge in aerospace-grade sewing and sophisticated manual fabrication to meet life-critical zero-defect thresholds. Calibrate and optimize industrial sewing machine parameters, including precise adjustment of thread tension, selection of appropriate needle types and sizes, and regulation of presser foot pressure to prevent issues such as skipped stitches, thread entanglement, and material deformation. Perform precision stitching on diverse and challenging technical materials, including advanced synthetic and polymer-based composites, to fabricate specialized aerospace components. Interpret and follow complex work instructions, engineering blueprints, and approved sample standards with aerospace-level precision, consistently meeting or exceeding tight quality tolerances. Apply advanced manufacturing expertise in aerospace or related fields to make precise adjustments and modifications that ensure superior durability, structural integrity, and validated performance of customer products under extreme conditions. Configure and optimize industrial sewing and fabrication machinery according to stringent aerospace specifications and established best practices to achieve accurate production output and superior component integrity. Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, process, and design issues that impact production, ensuring optimal machine performance, material integrity, and adherence to detailed aerospace specifications. Leverage expert-level aerospace fabrication knowledge and critical thinking to design innovative and complex products, overcome process bottlenecks, manage multiple competing priorities, and support strong team collaboration and safe work practices. Set up machines to defined specifications and best practices to meet production requirements and ensure consistent output. Convert the correct materials according to work order specifications, ensuring accurate material selection and usage throughout production. Execute production trials as required and accurately record results to support process validation and continuous improvement. Complete all quality documentation accurately and legibly at the appropriate stages of production, ensuring full traceability and compliance. Train Manufacturing Associates using the passport program, sharing best practices and supporting skill development across the team. Actively work toward completion of the passport program Manufacturing Operator I requirements, demonstrating commitment to ongoing learning and development. Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area, following all safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and quality practices. Perform any other functions or responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating a proactive and flexible approach to supporting critical tasks, optimizing processes, and contributing to overall business performance. Essential Skills 1–2 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in a production or industrial environment. Hands‑on experience with industrial sewing and sewing machine operation in a production setting. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot machine issues and support mechanical problem‑solving. Familiarity with lockout and tagout procedures and safe machine operation practices. Ability to read, understand, and follow complex work instructions and engineering documentation. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to follow instructions and complete documentation. Basic computer and math skills, including use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications. Self‑motivated and detail‑oriented approach with a strong focus on quality and precision. Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with manufacturing associates and other stakeholders. Ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds, depending on location requirements, and perform physical tasks associated with industrial production. High school diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience configuring and optimizing industrial sewing machines, including adjusting thread tension, needle selection, and presser foot pressure. Background in aerospace manufacturing or related industries, with familiarity of aerospace‑grade materials and quality expectations. Experience working with advanced synthetic and polymer‑based composite materials in a fabrication or stitching environment. Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, process, and design issues in a production environment. Experience training other team members or associates, particularly through structured programs such as a passport program. Comfort with documenting quality checks, trial results, and production data accurately and legibly.
