This company is a metal manufacturing and fabrication company serving customers that require high-quality, production-ready components and assemblies.

The company produces custom metal components and assemblies for industries such as heavy equipment, transportation, agriculture, construction, and other industrial markets. Depending on the project, the facility may manage the full manufacturing process from raw material and component fabrication through finishing, inspection, and final assembly.

Position Summary

This hybrid role combines CAD-based laser nesting responsibilities with hands-on inventory and materials control activities.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with technical drawings, nesting software, inventory records, subcontract suppliers, and physical material storage locations. 

Responsibilities

CAD Drawing and Laser Nesting

• Compile and import CAD drawings into the software used to prepare jobs for laser cutting.
• Create efficient sheet-metal nests based on production requirements, material type, thickness, sheet size, and part quantity.
• Arrange components to maximize material utilization and reduce scrap.
• Verify that drawings, revisions, part numbers, quantities, and material specifications are accurate before releasing nests to production.
• Identify missing, incomplete, or conflicting drawing information and coordinate corrections with Engineering or Production.
• Maintain organized nesting files and associated production documentation.
• Communicate material requirements and job priorities to Laser Operations and the Materials team.
• Monitor nesting performance and recommend opportunities to improve sheet utilization and workflow.

Materials and Inventory Control

• Perform scheduled and ad hoc inventory cycle counts.
• Research inventory discrepancies and assist with correcting inaccurate system records.
• Verify material quantities, identification, storage locations, and transaction history.
• Establish, label, organize, and maintain material storage locations.
• Support the movement and tracking of raw materials, components, work-in-process, and finished goods.
• Assist with material staging and availability for scheduled production orders.
• Help maintain accurate inventory records within the company’s ERP or materials management system.
• Identify excess, obsolete, damaged, or improperly stored material and communicate findings to management.
• Support inventory accuracy, material traceability, and shop-floor organization initiatives. .

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience with CAD drawings, laser nesting software, CNC laser operations, or sheet-metal manufacturing.
• Experience performing inventory control, cycle counting, material tracking, or warehouse coordination.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, part numbers, material specifications, and production documentation.
• Understanding of sheet-metal materials, gauges, thicknesses, and standard sheet sizes.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to learn manufacturing software systems.
• High level of accuracy when entering, reviewing, and maintaining production and inventory information.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal departments.
• Ability to balance computer-based planning responsibilities with hands-on materials support.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with laser nesting or programming software such as SigmaNEST, ProNest, TruTops, BySoft, RADAN, or a comparable platform.
• Experience working with ERP or material requirements planning systems.
• Familiarity with subcontract purchase orders and outside processing workflows.
• Experience in a precision metal fabrication or sheet-metal manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing, material flow, inventory accuracy, and scrap-reduction practices.

Physical and Work Requirements

• Ability to work in both an office setting and an active manufacturing environment.
• Ability to walk through production and material storage areas throughout the shift.
• Ability to count, identify, and verify physical inventory.
• Ability to lift and handle materials within established facility safety limits.
• Willingness to follow all required PPE, material-handling, and workplace safety procedures.
