Job Title: Project Architect Job Description

The Project Architect leads complex, large-scale educational projects from concept through completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard of design and technical quality. This role combines hands-on architectural design with project planning, client leadership, and coordination of multidisciplinary teams to achieve successful project outcomes and strong client satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage complex educational projects of the largest magnitude from initial planning through construction completion.
  • Develop comprehensive project work plans, including detailed schedules, budgets, and cartoon sets, to support successful project delivery.
  • Coordinate all project efforts, both administrative and technical, to ensure efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with clients, maintaining strong relationships and guiding projects to completion on schedule and within budget.
  • Actively manage client budgets, project schedules, and program requirements to align outcomes with client expectations and contractual obligations.
  • Oversee and manage project communications and documentation, ensuring accurate records and clear information flow among all stakeholders.
  • Handle office administrative tasks related to project operations, including reporting, project setup, and compliance with internal procedures.
  • Assign, organize, and oversee project team tasks to ensure effective collaboration and timely completion of project deliverables.
  • Estimate project fees, define scope of work, and prepare proposals and contracts for the most complex projects.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and monitoring of the work of less experienced project managers to support their development and ensure quality standards.
  • Ensure quality control in architectural design and documentation, reviewing work for accuracy, coordination, and compliance with project requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Proven ability to lead and handle complex educational projects of large scale and high complexity.
  • Strong project management skills with at least five years of project management experience in architecture or a related field.
  • Proficiency in developing project work plans, including schedules, budgets, and documentation strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating administrative and technical aspects of architectural projects for efficient and cost-effective delivery.
  • Strong client-facing skills with experience serving as the primary liaison to manage expectations and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Ability to estimate fees, determine project scope, and prepare proposals and contracts for complex projects.
  • Experience providing oversight and mentoring to less experienced project managers.
  • Some knowledge and use of Revit for architectural design and documentation.
  • Some knowledge and use of AutoCAD for design and technical drawing production.
  • Licensed Architect credential.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Interior Design from an accredited program.
  • Solid understanding of architectural design principles and quality control processes.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing project communications, documentation, and administrative tasks.
  • Effective leadership and team coordination skills to direct multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client interaction, proposal development, and project documentation.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of design and technical quality.
Work Environment

The Project Architect works in a professional architectural office environment focused on the delivery of complex educational projects. The role involves extensive use of design and documentation technologies, including Revit and AutoCAD, as well as standard office productivity tools for communication, scheduling, and documentation. Work typically follows standard business hours, with additional effort as needed to meet project deadlines and client commitments. The environment emphasizes collaboration, coordination, and quality control, with opportunities to mentor less experienced project managers and contribute to the continuous improvement of project delivery processes. Professional attire is expected in client-facing situations and formal meetings, while day-to-day office dress may be business casual depending on internal standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Overland Park, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $53.00/hr.
