Key Responsibilities

• Provide pre-operative and post-anesthesia care (Phase I PACU) to a diverse patient population including pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics across a high-volume surgical unit staffed 24/7
• Perform pre-op assessments, patient education, consent procurement, and preparation for a broad range of surgical specialties including bariatrics, cardiothoracic, neuro/spine, ortho, robotics, and vascular
• Monitor and manage patients in both pre-op and PACU settings; float within Surgical Services as needed, including outpatient ortho or same-day surgery on rare occasions
• Participate in on-call rotation — expected 2–3 call shifts per month with a 30-minute callback requirement on weekdays and 60-minute callback per pay period policy for general on-call
• Administer and manage medications including narcotics/analgesics, antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, IV vasopressors, and reversal agents; utilize Omnicell medication system
• Document and chart patient care using Epic EMR ; complete required specialty modules prior to assignment start

Required Qualifications

• Active, valid California RN license required at time of submittal
• Minimum 2 years of experience in PACU, Pre-Op, ER, or ICU — no first-time travelers
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIH Stroke Scale
• Demonstrated proficiency in Phase I PACU care, dysrhythmia recognition and management, airway assessment, IV insertion, pain assessment and management, and straight urinary catheterization (male and female)
• Proficiency with Epic EMR is required
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local travelers are not accepted

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Previous charge nurse experience
• Experience with robotic-assisted surgery, total joint replacement programs, and bariatric procedures (gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, lap band)
• Familiarity with arterial line management, chest tube management, PCA pump management, malignant hyperthermia protocols, and RASS scoring
• Background in ambulatory/outpatient and inpatient settings, including Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Center experience
