SOESD - Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 School Year JobID: 2307 Position Type: Special Education Support Services - Licensed/ Teacher - Special Education Date Posted: 4/8/2026 Location: Jackson County Date Available: 07/01/2026 The Southern Oregon Education Service District (SOESD) Long Term Care and Treatment Program is hiring a teacher interested in working with high school aged youth placed in residential mental health programs in Jackson County. Long Term Care and Treatment (LTCT) provides education programs for students who have been placed by other state agencies, school districts, or private placement in day treatment and residential treatment facilities. The students served by these programs have a variety of therapeutic and educational needs. The programs serve students who require schooling in a protected environment in order to ensure the health and safety of themselves and/or others and allow the treatment process to extend into the school day in order to fully implement the treatment plan. The goal of Long Term Care and Treatment Education Programs is to provide a high quality, therapeutic environment where students will gain the behavior skills and abilities to function successfully in a non-institutional environment. Treatment programs operate under strict mental health standards. The treatment program must encompass all aspects of the student's life and close coordination of the education and treatment plans is essential. The LTCT programs work with local schools and agencies to facilitate a successful transition back to the local public school and/or community whenever possible. POSITION GOAL
To provide individualized instruction to increase students' performance of adaptive self-help, communication, social, behavioral, academic, vocational, and independent living skills.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to establish a shared plan of action and coordinate instructional and intervention activities. Evaluate performance of self‑help, communication, social, behavioral, academic, vocational, and independent living skills. Participate on IEP teams to implement all required special education procedures, including parent rights, eligibility, IEP, placement, behavior, restraint and seclusion, and other student records, according to stated timelines. Provide individual and small group instruction related to IEP goals. Develop and implement positive classroom rules and individual and group management programs, including participation in functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and development and implementation of behavior support plans (BSPs) and crisis intervention plans (CIPs). Implement training methods, record data, assess student progress, and adjust training strategies as necessary. Develop and maintain an instruction, related service provider, and mainstreaming schedule. Consult with regular teachers, related service providers, and involved social service agencies to meet student needs. Prepare and maintain classroom materials, equipment, telephone contact log, and specific substitute instructions. Communicate clearly and appropriately and make independent decisions within established policies and procedures. Train, coordinate, provide modeling, coaching, observation and feedback, and gather data regarding the job performance of Educational Assistant(s). Establish and maintain positive working relationships with assistants, parents, building staff, related service providers, community and service agency personnel. Participate in professional growth activities. Comply with local district and ESD rules and policies. Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation. Perform job related tasks as designated by supervisor.MINIMUM PREREQUISITES
Valid Oregon Standard Teaching License – Special Education: Generalist Successful completion of a handicapped learner or severely handicapped program at an accredited university/college. Knowledge and experience with children with cognitive disabilities, life‑skills curriculum, mental health needs, and applicable training strategies. Demonstrated competence regarding use of computers and other technology devices and systems for communication, data recording and reporting, and student instruction and support. Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification. Ability to obtain Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification. LOCATION: in person at assigned school. LENGTH OF POSITION: 190 day (academic year) / 1.0 FTE SALARY RANGE: Per Collective Bargaining Agreement. $62,576.96 - $107,893.12 for the 2026-2027 school year IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Supervisor or Coordinator, Special Programs SOESD BENEFITS (For .50 FTE and Over) Southern Oregon ESD contributes up to $2,182.00 per month (family coverage) for health, dental and vision insurance premiums for qualified employees.
