ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – CHEMISTRY/PHYSICAL SCIENCE

Malcolm X College is seeking a Part‑time Adjunct Instructor to teach Chemistry/Physical Science. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom through effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and foster critical thinking and problem‑solving. Responsibilities Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation in their own learning. Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps them to problem‑solve using discipline‑specific thinking strategies. Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure classroom instruction leads to student learning and attainment of learning outcomes. Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn. Contribute to and provide leadership in students’ academic and professional communities, promoting collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities. Qualifications Master’s degree in a physical science (Chemistry, Physics, etc.) – or Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Physical Science/Chemistry. Teaching experience preferred – either higher education or high school levels. Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similar LMS, preferred. Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification is strongly preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students required. Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open‑access mission of the community college. Salary Range: $800 – $943 per contact hour. The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
