Facility: GSS SD Canistota Ctr Location: Canistota, SD Address: 700 Main St, Canistota, SD 57012, USA Shift: Varies Job Schedule: PRN Weekly Hours: Varies Salary Range: $19.50 - $28.00 Department Details Must have both Certified Medication Aide (CMA) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to be eligible for this position. Extra $2.50/hr location premium. Job Summary The Medication Assistant (MA) serves as caregiver who provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. The MA delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents according to the plan of care. Responsibilities include assistance with basic health care needs such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psycho-social support. The MA may assist residents with transfers, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment, perform range of motion and passive exercises, complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, and create a positive dining experience. Medication administration is performed as delegated by a licensed nurse and within scope of practice as defined by state regulations. The MA documents outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and diet, and communicates changes and concerns to the charge nurse. Additional duties include collecting non-invasive body fluid specimens, housekeeping and laundry services, and supporting wellness and recreational programs. Participation in departmental or organizational committees and task forces may be required. Qualifications High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required. Minimum age 18 preferred. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred. Successfully completes yearly department-specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits. Minimum 12 hours of continuing education annually. Maintain all department-specific required certifications. If applicable, must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance. State-specific requirements for certification: Iowa: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with State Board of Nursing and state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course. Minnesota: Nursing assistant certification, 75‑hour course, and registration with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry, plus state-approved Trained Medication Assistant course. North Dakota: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with State Board of Nursing, state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course, Medication Assistant I or II certification depending on facility type. South Dakota: Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course required and maintained. Other Good Samaritan and Sanford facilities: state-required certified/trained medication aide certification (CMA or TMA) and active certified nursing assistant registration in state of practice or ability to obtain within 120 days.
