Medical Assistant - Certified - Floater for Outpatient & Inpatient Units

• Schedule will be Monday-Friday 8AM-4:30PM.

OUTPATIENT COVERAGE: The Medical Assistant will work under the guidance of the outpatient nurse manager to provide services to adults who are experiencing serious and/or chronic mental health disorders. This includes taking vital signs, drawing labs, completing EKG’s, medication refills, prior authorizations, and assisting nurses, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and psychiatrists.. The Medical Assistant may be required to perform blood draws at inpatient locations on occasion, which requires travel within the Spokane community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

• Performs venipuncture and basic lab procedures.
• Obtain vital signs
• Conduct EKG’s
• Support nurses, nurse practitioners, and psychiatrists in the provision of patient care, e.g., medication refill requests and prior authorizations.
• Report suspected changes in patient condition and/or potential crisis situations to the RN manager.
• Provide verbal redirection and gradual guidance to patients if needed and role model appropriate behavior including utilizing de-escalation techniques that align with FBH provided training.
• Attend/participate in required trainings, meetings, and supervision sessions.
• Maintain clients records and all other required documentationj in a timely and confidential mannenr, in accordance with agency policies and practices.
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationship with all RNs, providers and FBH staff.
• Requires travel travel between work sites.
• Other duties as assigned.

INPATIENT COVERAGE: The Medical Assistant is an active member of the inpatient team who works under the guidance of the charge RN by providing services to adults who are experiencing serious and/or chronic mental health disorders. This includes taking vital signs, drawing labs, administering medication, and monitoring clients’ activities, and behaviors. The Medical Assistant may be required to travel between two different inpatient units within the same workday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

• Perform venipuncture and basic lab procedures.
• Administration of medications including oral medications, Intramuscular medications (IM) and subcutaneous medication (SQ)
• Blood sugar checks.
• Basic vital signs
• Monitor and supervise client activities and behaviors, including general supervision of milieu and completion of scheduled patient rounding.
• Complete clear, objective clinical documentation regarding patient activities and behaviors in an appropriate time frame.
• Accurately documenting medication administration via MAR or EMAR
• Provide feedback to RN regarding patient interactions, activities, and behaviors.
• Report suspected changes in patient condition and/or potential crisis situations to the charge nurse or unit leader.
• Adhere to and follow the patients’ written treatment plan.
• Provide verbal redirection and gradual guidance to patients if needed and role model appropriate behavior including utilizing de-escalation techniques that align with FBH provided training.
• Remain alert and provide direct line of sight monitoring of patients as needed.
• Provide general house cleaning services i.e., vacuuming, dusting, washing dishes, laundry, sanitation of counters etc.
• Engage patients in social conversation, provide supportive listening, encourage and/or set up recreation activities.
• Complete patients’ personal belongings inventory and assist with admissions as needed.
• Attend/participate in required trainings, meetings, and supervision sessions.
• Maintain and enhance customer service to ensure that both external and internal customers of FBH have a positive experience.
• Maintain clients records and all other required documentationj in a timely and confidential mannenr, in accordance with agency policies and practices.
• Establish and maintain a good working relationship with all RNs’, providers and FBH staff.
• Requires travel travel between work sites.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:

REQUIRED:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Active Washington Medical Assistance Certified Credential at the time of application.
• BLS certification or must obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Food Handler's Card or must be obtained within 7 days of hire.
• Must have reliable transportation, insurance and an active driver’s license and be willing to use personal vehicle in the course of work.

PREFERRED:

• 1-2 years of experience in a behavioral health setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats, including the ability to complete objective clinical documentation.
• Ability to communicate with individuals of various backgrounds, education levels, and socio-economic status.
• Must have basic computer skills including ability to document in an electronic medical record, use electronic time tracking, and use of Outlook, Word, Excel, and the intranet.

• Work is generally performed in a clinic setting, which may involve sitting and use of computers for 4-8 hours per day.
• May be required to lift 10 - 20 pounds.
• Blood-borne Pathogen Category I – Chance of blood-borne pathogen exposure.

BASE PAY RANGE (Hourly/ Non-Exempt): $24.30- $29.60

• All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus the starting base pay for this position is $24.30 per hour.
