Production Chemist

Production Chemist Location: Irvine, CA – ONSITE. Contract until the end of the year, extendable. Pay rate: $25-30/hr (depending on Education and Experience) Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Onsite). Hours: 7:00 – 3:30 pm or 4:00 pm if they take a 1-hour lunch. Position Summary We are seeking a Production Chemist to support formulation activities in a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for preparing products and intermediates using biological and chemical materials while ensuring compliance with established procedures, safety standards, and quality requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, GMP‑regulated setting. Key Responsibilities Formulate bulk products and intermediates of low to medium complexity in accordance with approved procedures and specifications Follow and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and controlled documentation practices Perform data entry, material tracking, and inventory control using ERP systems (SAP preferred) Complete and maintain accurate production documentation in compliance with GDP/GMP standards Monitor manufacturing processes and make necessary adjustments to ensure quality and yield targets are met Coordinate, prioritize, and execute daily lab and production tasks to meet strict deadlines Handle biological and chemical materials safely, including hazardous substances, in accordance with safety protocols Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support production goals and continuous improvement initiatives Additional Information Work with large volumes of blood, urine and serum, up to 3000 liters Work in wet environment, walk‑in cold room (2‑8°C) for certain activities, and potentially exposure to a walk‑in freezer Climb up and down a ladder to reach the top of a tank to add raw materials to the product pool (liquid or solid) Ability to lift up to 25 lbs of raw materials to add to the pool Chemist will perform spiking of raw materials in the product pool (pipetting, measure in a graduated cylinder, or solid materials added in bulk) Chemist will perform washing of glassware, stainless steel tanks and other laboratory equipment Chemist will perform set‑up and breakdown of laboratory equipment Work with large pieces of equipment such as 3000 liter stainless steel tanks, large filtration presses, Diafiltration unit (TFF), etc. Work with pressurized, gas cylinders (generally argon or CO2 gas) Potentially work in a filtration hood to filter products (must be gowned in a cleanroom gown, hood) Work with chemicals, including acids and bases, and other raw materials (biological in nature, hazardous or biohazardous) May fill‑out information in batch records, equipment logs etc. Will be on their feet for 4‑6 hours per day in the laboratory, on some occasions longer Willing to work overtime as needed (notice is generally not known in advance) Apply GMP, GDP, GLP Ability to work in a collaborative environment Requirements Employee must provide and wear their own OSHA approved laboratory safety shoes for the lab. They must be enclosed shoes (no opening in the back).
