This role focuses on industrial electrical maintenance and troubleshooting on heavy manufacturing equipment ranging from 12V to 480V and 3-phase power. You will diagnose and repair electrical and minor mechanical issues on plant machinery and facility equipment, support special installations and projects, and ensure safe, reliable operation of production systems in a heavy industrial steel manufacturing environment. Overtime is regularly required, and training is provided on 1st shift before moving to 2nd or 3rd shift.

Responsibilities

• Perform industrial electrical maintenance and troubleshooting on heavy industrial machinery operating from 12V up to 480V and 3-phase power.
• Diagnose and repair electrical issues on plant systems including circuits, motors, lighting, control boxes, control panels, and machine controls.
• Troubleshoot and repair facility equipment such as conveyors, robotic arms, rollers, furnaces, and mobile equipment.
• Carry out minor mechanical work on conveyors, gears, and bearings to support continuous operation of equipment.
• Read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings to perform maintenance and repairs.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot motors, sensors, switches, photo eyes, and related electrical components.
• Work with circuits, breakers, panels, PLCs, and VFDs to identify faults and restore proper function.
• Assist with special installations and plant projects, ensuring electrical work is completed safely and in accordance with standards.
• Perform preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working around moving mechanical parts, hot surfaces, and heavy industrial equipment.
• Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and completed work clearly to supervisors and team members.
• Support production by responding promptly to breakdowns and electrical issues during assigned shift.
• Participate in training and skill development, including progression toward journeyman-level expertise if applicable.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 4 years of previous industrial electrician or industrial maintenance experience.
• At least 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience working with 480V electrical systems and 3-phase power.
• Strong experience in machine repair and troubleshooting in an industrial setting.
• Hands-on experience with circuits, OHMs, motors, panels, sensors, switches, and photo eyes.
• Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Experience troubleshooting and working with PLCs and VFDs.
• Solid understanding of industrial electrical maintenance practices and safety procedures.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and perform physically active work such as standing, walking, climbing, and balancing.
• Capability to work overtime, typically 5060 hours most weeks.
• Comfort working in a hot, heavy industrial environment with loud noise and exposure to moving mechanical parts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Journeyman Card is highly valued and may qualify for top pay rate without a Ramsey test.
• Trade school certificate for a journeyman course, associate degree, or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Willingness to receive minimal additional training if working toward obtaining a Journeyman Card.
• Ability to work effectively with robotic systems, conveyors, furnaces, and other complex industrial equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Attention to detail when working with schematics, wiring, and complex electrical systems.
• Good communication skills for coordinating with maintenance and production teams.
• Adaptability to changing priorities in a high-demand manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a unionized, heavy industrial steel manufacturing facility that produces welded and cold drawn mechanical steel tubing, tubular shapes, plated bar and tubing, fabricated parts, and precision components. The environment is hot around the furnaces, with fair temperatures throughout the rest of the plant, and can be loud near tube drop-off areas. Work is generally laid back and not highly physical, but it involves frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, caustic chemicals, outside weather, and extreme heat. The noise level is usually loud. Physically, the job requires regular standing, walking, talking or hearing, frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel, reaching with hands and arms, and climbing or balancing. Occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and smelling are required, along with the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The position operates in a union environment where it takes 800 working hours to be fully brought into the union, and dues begin after 30 days. Once in the union, employees can bid on positions and eventually secure a set shift. Training occurs on 1st shift (7:00 AM3:00 PM), with regular schedules available on 2nd shift (3:00 PM11:00 PM, with a shift differential) and 3rd shift (11:00 PM7:00 AM, with a shift differential). Supplied uniforms and an annual boot voucher support appropriate attire for the hot, heavy industrial setting.

This is a Permanent position based out of Alliance, OH.

The pay range for this position is $56000.00 - $73000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
