Travel RN - Psychiatric

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Psychiatric Adult Transitions (night shift) position in Kansas City, MO, requiring active CPI certification and a minimum of 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience.

Job Details

• Psychiatric inpatient setting with multiple specialized adult and adolescent units,
• Units include: ADOL (ages 12-18), Serenity (lower acuity adult), ITU (higher acuity adult, thought disorder diagnoses), SRAD (senior lifestyle patients), and VINE (lower acuity adult),
• Bed counts: ADOL - 18, Serenity - 24, ITU - 32, SRAD - 16, VINE - 9,
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:8; MHT ratio is 1:12,
• Night shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts),
• Three 12-hour shifts required per day, seven days a week including weekends,
• Floating is utilized based on where the greatest need exists across units,
• No on-call requirements,
• Documentation system: Meditech,
• 13-week contract,

Job Requirements

• Active MO RN license or Compact RN license required,
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC accepted) and active CPI (SAMA, MAB, or ACPMA may be accepted in lieu of CPI),
• Certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start date,
• Minimum 2 years of recent psychiatric/behavioral health nursing experience required,
• Ability to assess patients' mental health status, including recognizing signs of psychiatric disorders, substance use, and behavioral problems,
• Experience with psychotropic medication administration and monitoring for side effects,
• Crisis intervention skills including de-escalation techniques,
• US SSN and date of birth required for consideration - no Canadian SSNs accepted,
• Two professional references required (Missouri),
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months,

• Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, developing individualized care plans, and monitoring patients for physical and psychological symptoms including vital signs and mental status changes,
• Therapeutic communication, active listening, and empathy are essential to daily patient interactions,

• Nurse dress code: blue scrubs,
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility - local candidates are not eligible, no exceptions
