The Licensed Clinician – Crisis Services provides advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic evaluation, crisis intervention, stabilization, treatment planning, and clinical oversight across Southeastern Integrated Care's Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) and Mobile Crisis programs. The position is intentionally cross-utilized and may be assigned to BHUC, Mobile Crisis, or both during a shift based on operational needs.
As the clinical lead during crisis response, the Licensed Clinician is responsible for diagnostic formulation, determination of medical necessity, clinical decision-making, supervision of non-licensed clinical staff, and disposition planning. Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary Crisis Services team, the Licensed Clinician promotes trauma-informed, person-centered, recovery-oriented care while ensuring individuals receive the most appropriate treatment in the least restrictive environment.
Evening, overnight, weekend, holiday, rotating, and on-call schedules may be required to support twenty-four-hour crisis response operations.
What you will do:
- Respond to behavioral health crises in the Behavioral Health Urgent Care, community settings, homes, schools, hospitals, emergency departments, and other designated service locations.
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, biopsychosocial assessments, mental status examinations, suicide and violence risk assessments, substance use assessments, and determination of medical necessity.
- Complete Comprehensive Clinical Assessments (CCAs), diagnostic evaluations, LOCUS, ASAM, NC-SNAP, DSM-5 diagnostic formulation, and other required clinical tools consistent with applicable Medicaid policies.
- Provide crisis intervention, therapeutic counseling, motivational interviewing, safety planning, and evidence-based de-escalation techniques.
- Complete first evaluations for involuntary commitment and provide clinical recommendations consistent with organizational policy and scope of practice.
- Determine the least restrictive level of care while promoting safety and recovery.
- Provide clinical supervision, consultation, and oversight to Qualified Professionals, Associate Professionals, Certified Peer Support Specialists, Behavioral Health Technicians, and other assigned staff.
- Develop, approve, and oversee Person-Centered Plans in collaboration with individuals served, families, Qualified Professionals, and interdisciplinary team members.
Mobile Crisis Responsibilities
- Respond to community crisis calls in immediate real time.
- Conduct community-based assessments, crisis intervention, stabilization, and follow-up services.
- Coordinate crisis response activities with EMS, law enforcement, hospitals, schools, and community partners.
- Utilize telehealth when clinically appropriate and consistent with Medicaid policy.
- Participate in rotating on-call schedules and twenty-four-hour crisis response operations .
Behavioral Health Urgent Care Responsibilities
- Conduct intake assessments and diagnostic evaluations for individuals presenting to the Behavioral Health Urgent Care.
- Direct clinical triage and disposition planning.
- Determine admission to observation services, Facility-Based Crisis, residential treatment, detoxification, inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, outpatient services, or emergency department referral.
- Collaborate with psychiatry, nursing, Qualified Professionals, Certified Peer Support Specialists, Behavioral Health Technicians, and primary care providers.
- Promote emergency department diversion and appropriate utilization of community-based crisis resources.
- Monitor clinical progress and reassess individuals throughout the stabilization process.
- Complete all required clinical documentation accurately and within established timeframes.
- Maintain complete and accurate electronic medical records.
- Complete diagnostic assessments, Comprehensive Clinical Assessments, service notes, Person-Centered Plans, Individual Treatment Reviews, discharge summaries, follow-up documentation, clinical supervision documentation, incident reports, and other required records.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provides clinical supervision, oversight, coaching, and mentoring to Qualified Professionals, Associate Professionals, Certified Peer Support Specialists, Behavioral Health Technicians, and other assigned clinical staff in accordance with North Carolina regulations, professional licensure standards, and Southeastern Integrated Care policies.
Education/Experience
· Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or another qualifying human services field from an accredited institution.
· Current unrestricted North Carolina clinical license, including one of the following:
- LCSW or LCSW-A
- LCMHC or LCMHC-A
- LCAS or LCAS-A
- LMFT or LMFT-A
- Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Psychological Associate
- Other qualifying independent or associate clinical license recognized under North Carolina Medicaid policy.
· Experience providing behavioral health crisis intervention, emergency behavioral health services, crisis stabilization, or community-based behavioral health services preferred.
· Valid North Carolina driver's license.
· Reliable transportation with proof of current automobile insurance.
· Approved crisis intervention certification as required by the organization.
Work Environment:
This position functions in a variety of clinical and community settings, including Behavioral Health Urgent Care facilities, homes, hospitals, emergency departments, residential programs, schools, community agencies, and other locations where behavioral health crises occur.
The work environment frequently involves exposure to emotionally charged situations, unpredictable behaviors, and rapidly changing circumstances. Employees must exercise sound clinical judgment while maintaining professionalism, compassion, and personal safety.
May require you to work embedded in emergency rooms, sheriff departments, magistrates’ office, drop-in centers etc. and/or co-respond with first responders.

This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, driving, and movement throughout clinical and community environments. Employees must be able to safely respond during crisis situations, assist individuals when appropriate, and occasionally lift or move up to fifty pounds.
Frequent travel throughout the assigned service area is required.
