Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Criminal Defense Attorney role located in Utica, NY. The Criminal Defense Attorney will manage a caseload of criminal matters from intake through resolution, including arraignments, pre-trial motions, plea negotiations, trials, and sentencings. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, reviewing discovery, drafting motions and legal memoranda, and preparing case strategies. The attorney will meet with clients regularly, explain legal options, maintain detailed case files, and collaborate with staff and other attorneys as needed. The role also involves appearing in local and state courts, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, and adhering to all professional and ethical standards. Qualifications Strong foundation in Law and Criminal Law, with the ability to interpret statutes, case law, and court rules. Experience or focused interest in Criminal Defense Law and Criminal Defense practice, including managing criminal cases from start to finish. Proficiency in legal Research to support motions, trial preparation, and overall case strategy. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license (or eligibility for licensure) to practice law in New York State. Effective written and verbal advocacy skills, including drafting clear legal documents and presenting arguments in court. Strong client communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations respectfully. Organizational skills to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records and documentation.
