Job Title: Window Installer / Carpenter

Job Description

Join a skilled carpentry team as a window installer and all-around carpenter, where you will work on a variety of residential and multifamily projects including apartment complexes and retirement communities. You will start each day at the shop, load tools and materials with your crew, travel together to the job site, complete installation and carpentry tasks, and return to the shop at the end of the day. This role focuses heavily on installing windows and doors while also supporting a wide range of carpentry and remodeling work, with on-the-job training provided for motivated candidates who bring strong measuring and basic carpentry skills.

Responsibilities

• Meet at the office each morning to receive daily project assignments and team placement.
• Gather and load tools, equipment, and materials needed for the day’s project into the company vehicle.
• Ride with a crew of 2–3 team members to job sites; you will not be responsible for driving the company vehicle.
• Install windows and doors as the primary focus of day-to-day work.
• Trim out windows and doors to a high standard of quality and finish.
• Install door and window hardware accurately and securely.
• Perform framing work for rooms and other structures as required by the project scope.
• Assist with deck work, including basic construction and carpentry tasks.
• Install cabinets and complete related finish carpentry tasks.
• Support remodel and tenant improvement projects, including demolition, framing, and finish work as needed.
• Read and interpret basic blueprints or drawings to understand project requirements.
• Measure and cut materials precisely using a tape measure and appropriate tools.
• Maintain a clean and organized job site by assisting with daily clean-up and packing up tools and materials.
• Return to the shop at the end of each workday to unload, store tools, and prepare for the next day.
• Collaborate with team leads and crew members to complete projects efficiently and safely.
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn new carpentry skills and accept on-the-job training from experienced team members.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of general carpentry experience, including hands-on work in construction or remodeling.
• Proficiency in window installation and door installation.
• Ability to trim out windows and doors to a professional standard.
• Ability to hang doors, including proper alignment and hardware installation.
• Strong skill in reading and using a tape measure accurately to the highest level of precision.
• Ability to measure and cut building materials proficiently and consistently.
• Experience with framing, including walls and rooms.
• Experience with remodeling and tenant improvement work.
• General carpentry skills across multiple areas such as decks, cabinets, and finish work.
• Ability to read and understand basic blueprints or construction drawings.
• Valid driver’s license strongly preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience installing hardware for doors and windows.
• Working with building materials in a construction or carpentry environment.
• Comfort working on decks and exterior carpentry projects.
• Experience installing cabinets and performing finish carpentry.
• Aptitude and positive attitude toward learning new skills and techniques on the job.
• Willingness to receive training and grow into more advanced carpentry responsibilities.
• CDL A license is considered a plus, though it will not be utilized in this role during the contract period.

Work Environment

You will work at a busy location with around 100 employees across inventory, office, runners, framers, installers, and leadership. The carpentry team consists of eight core members plus a dedicated service specialist who handles post-installation work, with four team leads and four laborers. Crews typically handle 2–3 different sites per day, with some projects lasting a single day and others extending for a month or more depending on client needs and project scope. Standard hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday work as needed. During the busy season, typically starting at the end of April, hours may shift to 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will report to the South office and travel with your crew to various job sites. The dress code is practical and comfortable: jeans and a t-shirt are appropriate, and cargo shorts are permitted in the summer. The company provides high-visibility vests, three high-visibility t-shirts after two weeks of employment, safety glasses, and a hard hat. You may wear tennis shoes or boots, and steel-toed footwear is not required. The environment is field-based, hands-on, and team-oriented, with a steady flow of multifamily, apartment, and retirement community projects.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr.
