Centra's Psychiatry and Behavioral Health provide vital and compassionate mental health services to our community through a variety of programs. We offer inpatient programs, which include an Acute Psychiatric Program for Children & Adolescents, an Adult Psychiatric Program, and a Geriatric Psychiatric Program. We also provide ambulatory services through Piedmont Psychiatric Center, Centra Pathways Treatment Center for those with substance-use disorders-related problems and Consult Liaison Services with two hospitals. In addition, we have our new Psychiatric Emergency Center (emPATH) which opened in October 2023 and has been incredibly successful. We have the first one in VA! Centra Health Behavioral Health Hospital is opening in Spring 2026. This 75,000 sq ft, 72-bed facility will feature open community spaces, therapeutic courtyards, and advanced clinical areas serving adult, geriatric, and child/adolescent populations.

About CMG

Centra Medical Group (CMG) is a comprehensive network of nearly 600 employed providers within Centra Health. Centra Health services a population of 600,000 community members with 70 different outpatient and specialty practices. Centra offers primary care and specialty services across Central and Southern Virginia—from Lynchburg to Danville, Farmville, Moneta, and Bedford. CMG includes family practices, specialists, and surgeons in fields such as cardiology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, urology, and more. CMG is also home to the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency, a training program for future family physicians, many of whom hold academic appointments with institutions like UVA, VCU, VCOM, and Liberty University.

Responsibilities

• Multidisciplinary, collegial team: psychiatrists, psychologists, NPs, PAs, and counselors
• Robust, comprehensive community behavioral health services
• Call is 1:14 and is mostly tele call
• Weekend rounding only when on call
• Cerner EMR
• Hospital employed
• Teaching opportunities available
• Mentorship for new hires

Qualifications

• M.S. in Nursing required
• Psychiatry and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) required.
• Current Virginia State Board of Nursing license as a Nurse Practitioner, prescriptive authority
