This facility is dedicated exclusively to pediatric care, providing exceptional services across various specialty areas, including pediatric heart surgery, pulmonology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, neonatal and pediatric intensive care, oncology, and emergency services. Known for a strong reputation in pediatric healthcare, the team focuses on family-centered care to ensure a positive experience for both children and their families.

Unit Highlights

• Location: San Antonio, TX
• Unit: Children's Emergency
• Approximate Number of Beds: 36 plus 2 trauma rooms
• Patient Ratios: 3:1
• Unit Staffing: Includes unit clerks, pharmacists, technicians, mid-level providers, and physicians.

Shift Information

• Shift Details: 7A - 7:30P / 7P - 7:30A / 1P - 1:30A / 3P - 3:30A
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Weekend Requirements: Rotating
• Guaranteed Hours: 36

Experience and Certifications

Required Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in an emergency department.
• Active RN license in Texas (temporary licenses are not accepted).
• Certifications: BLS, PALS or ENPC, TNCC.
• Experience in a pediatric environment is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Leadership skills or experience as a charge nurse or nursing educator.
• Experience with Meditech documentation system.
• Ability to perform pediatric care and interventions effectively.

Unit-Specific Procedures

• IV insertion and management
• In-and-out catheterization
• Medication reconciliation

Dress Code

• Scrub Color: Navy (undershirts and jackets must be white, navy, or black - no hooded jackets or sweaters).
• Nail Policy: No artificial nails or nail polish.
• Hair: Must be off the shoulders and natural color.
• Tattoos: Should be covered whenever possible; non-coverable tattoos will be addressed individually.
• Piercings: Visible piercings other than ears are not permitted.

This unit prides itself on teamwork and a fast-paced environment, often accommodating approximately 200 to 250 patients daily during peak season. We are seeking a dedicated, self-motivated individual with a passion for high-quality care and excellence in service.
