A Product Owner for Desktop Containers drives the tactical execution, user story refinement, and day-to-day delivery of local container environments (e.g., Docker Desktop, Podman Desktop, Rancher Desktop). While a Product Manager focuses on market strategy, pricing, and high-level vision, the Product Owner works directly with engineering teams to convert that vision into concrete technical stories, backlog items, and release deliverables.

• Backlog Management & Prioritization: Own, refine, and prioritize technical user stories covering container runtime updates, virtualization bug fixes, and GUI/CLI enhancements.
• Developer Workflow Definition: Detail user journeys for local build, run, and debug loops, ensuring seamless integration with local Kubernetes (k3s, minikube) and IDEs.
• Kernel & Virtualization Layer Scoping: Translate complex low-level requirements (WSL2 integration, macOS Virtualization.framework, file system mounts, networking proxies) into actionable development tasks.
• Sprint Execution & Acceptance: Define clear Definition of Done (DoD) for low-level system features, execute sprint planning, and accept completed stories.
• Security & Enterprise Features: Scope work for enterprise needs, such as enterprise proxy handling, rootless container execution, air-gapped deployments, and image scanning.

Focus

Understanding Docker/Podman architectures, WSL2, Apple Hypervisor, containerd, and local networking/DNS routing.

Scrum/Kanban leadership, backlog grooming, writing technical acceptance criteria, managing technical debt.

Tooling ergonomics, CLI consistency, desktop UI (Electron/Tauri) user flows, and developer feedback loops.

Bridging kernel/systems engineers, UI developers, documentation teams, and QA specialists.

• Product Manager: Determines what to build and why (e.g., "We need to support Apple Silicon and enterprise security features to expand into mid-market companies").
• Product Owner: Determines how to sequence the work and what goes into the next sprint (e.g., "Refactoring the Host-to-VM file sharing driver for macOS Monterey using Virtualization.framework").

We are seeking a high-impact Senior Product Owner to join our team during a pivotal phase of our platform modernization. Our core product is the critical engagement layer and integrated workspace for our internal teams, consolidating disparate applications, dashboards, and complex data sets into a unified, high-performance experience.

As we scale to support thousands of internal users, we need a product owner who can bridge the gap between complex business requirements and modern technical architecture. You will be instrumental in evolving our platform from a specialized tool to a robust enterprise experience, directly influencing how our teams manage their daily operations and client interactions.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute & Evolve the Roadmap: Take ownership of the existing product roadmap, ensuring we meet core business objectives and performance targets. Critically evaluate the roadmap to propose improvements, enhancements, and strategic pivots based on evolving market and user needs.
• Technical Translation: Act as the primary bridge between business stakeholders and engineering teams. You must understand our technical landscape (modern frontend frameworks, APIs, cloud-based backend services) well enough to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and manage roadmap trade-offs.
• Modernization Champion: Drive the evolution of our product architecture. This includes supporting the transition toward scalable data models and helping re-engineer how applications authenticate and share context within the centralized platform ecosystem.
• Stakeholder Influence: Navigate a diverse set of enterprise stakeholders including analytics, security, engineering, and business leadership. Build strong, collaborative relationships to unblock delivery and maintain development velocity.
• Scalable Rollout: Oversee persona-based rollout strategies, ensuring the platform meets the foundational needs of our user base while allowing for necessary customization across different business units.

What You Bring

• Deep Technical Acumen: While you don't need to be an active developer, you must have a strong grasp of modern, cloud-based platform architecture. You are comfortable discussing API design, cloud services, modular frontend architecture, and authentication flows.
• Product Leadership: Proven ability to manage a product lifecycle in a technical space. You excel at "Getting Stuff Done" (GSD) while maintaining long-term architectural health.
• Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical constraints (e.g., security requirements, data re-architecture) into clear business impacts and timeline implications for non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborative Mindset: You are not just a ticket-taker; you are a partner who challenges the status quo, asks the right questions, and ensures we are building the right solution, not just the easiest one.
