Experience: Minimum of two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting with a frail or elderly population.

License: One of the following is required if worker completed a non-accredited Medical Assistant Program:

• Registered Medical Assistant Certification through AMT.
• Registered Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Personnel.
• Registered Medical Assistant through the American Allied Health.
• Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA.
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant through the National Healthcareer Association.
• National Certified Medical Assistant through NCCT.
• Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant through National Association for Health Professionals.
• California Certified Medical Assistant through California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants.
• BLS.

Certifications: Must-Have:

• Ability to follow directions from supervisor and communicate needs effectively.
• Excellent clinical, organizational, and communication skills in settings with seniors, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.

Description: The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting medical staff in the provision of safe and efficient delivery of medical services. Under the general supervision of medical staff, the Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and clinical duties. Responsibilities include scheduling medical appointments, greeting participants, and filing medical records. The Medical Assistant takes and records vital signs and prepares exam rooms. They maintain equipment and supplies while collaborating with all members of the team. Duties also include preparing participants for appointments and addressing their needs in the clinic. The Medical Assistant performs required pre-exam physical tests and assists during examinations. They conduct general medical procedures as directed, under specific authorization, and supervision. The role involves collecting and preparing laboratory specimens and performing routine sterilization procedures. The Medical Assistant triages and addresses unscheduled requests for visits in the clinic. They support specialists by prepping participants for exams and documenting procedures and care provided. Maintaining clinic logs and ensuring exam rooms are properly stocked and sanitized is essential. The Medical Assistant monitors and maintains medication and vaccine logs. Conducting quality control checks on clinic lab equipment is a crucial part of the role. Documentation of ordered procedures and care is required, as well as providing teaching to participants. Staff and non-staff COVID testing may also be performed as needed.
