Project Engineer

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate daily documentation of project progress, safety compliance, labor and equipment tracking, and as-built drawings.
• Assist the superintendent and project manager with all aspects of project progression, including scheduling, coordination, and reporting.
• Monitor and support the activities of subordinates and subcontractors to ensure quality and adherence to project specifications.
• Participate in the preparation of contract pay applications by providing technical reports, estimates, and cost tracking.
• Inspect site work, including pipe installation and grading, to ensure quality standards are met.
• Research and review new construction techniques and equipment to support project innovation and efficiency.
• Procure materials and maintain inventory as needed for project requirements.
• Operate heavy equipment, machinery, and Rovers when properly trained and as required by project needs.
• Perform manual labor tasks on an as-needed basis, including roles such as pipe layer, concrete finisher, or grade checker.
• Report regularly to the project manager on production, costs, job progress, and any issues encountered.
• Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, and coordinate trucking and subcontractor activities.
• Conduct weekly safety meetings and daily toolbox talks to promote a safe work environment.
• Read and interpret blueprints to ensure field work aligns with project plans.
• Safely navigate and work on job sites with varying terrain and weather conditions.
• Safely enter deep excavations and confined spaces as required by specific projects.
• Drive company vehicles as needed, including for long distances.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, OR
• Five years of site work and grading experience, including at least one year in a supervisory role, OR
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as approved by management.
• Willingness to travel as needed for project assignments.
• Knowledge of pipe installation techniques and grading activities.
• Ability to interpret plans, diagrams, and blueprints.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
• Familiarity with Trimble GPS Systems, HCSS Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, Primavera, and Timberline is a plus; willingness to learn these systems within 6 months of hire is expected.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks as required by the project.
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and perform manual labor when necessary.
