School Bus Driver - Jumper Has CDL (incl. School Bus Endorsement)

Reports To And Is Evaluated By: Director of Transportation

Terms Of Employment: Bargaining unit position, 10-month work year; FLSA Non-Exempt.

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately

Location: District Wide

Compensation: In accordance with PESPA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Principal Function: To safely and efficiently transport school students to and from school and/or school-related activities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

1. Safely transport students to and from school and/or school-related activities in consideration of road and weather conditions and in accordance with state and local laws as well as District policy and procedures.
2. Maintain desirable personal and moral standards so as to serve as a positive role model for students and the community.
3. Complete and maintain all required reports and records; including, but not limited to, time sheets and daily mileage records. In addition, ensure that the required driving credentials, updated bus route and current student roster are maintained on the vehicle at all times.
4. Assist in the establishment of safe and efficient bus routes and schedules.
5. Adhere to established bus routes and schedules.
6. Establish a professional working rapport with students so as to ensure adherence to safety rules.
7. Report, in accordance with District policy and practice, students who are not complying with District rules and regulations and/or driver instructions.
8. Report in accordance with district policy and practice all accidents/collisions/incidents/injuries involving district vehicles equipment, students, employee(s).
9. Must be able to physically inspect the vehicle multiple times per day, following the last student(s) unloaded for each tier of the route and prior to leaving the district vehicle for any passengers or articles left behind.
10. Must be physically able to exit the rear emergency exit door of the vehicle.
11. Be able to properly install and secure, in both school buses and school vans, car seats, star seats, cam wraps, safety vests, wheelchairs and any other safety device that a student may need.
12. Perform daily pre- and post-operation checks on the vehicle. Immediately report any problems and/or damage, exterior and/or interior, to the Director of Transportation.
13. Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle both inside and out, including, but not limited to, the windows.
14. Attend all in-service training meetings as required by the district and/or department.
15. Submit to quarterly drug/alcohol testing as required by the Federal and State Departments of Transportation.
16. Assume other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

In addition to the Bus Driver job description, the following are requirements of a Jumper:

1. Superior Geographic Knowledge
   • In-depth understanding of district roadways.
   • Strong familiarity with school locations outside the district.
2. Operational Readiness
   • Must be capable of executing any assigned route without the need for a dry run.
   • Flexibility to adapt to route changes, including same-day and shift-based adjustments (e.g., morning to afternoon).
3. Vehicle Proficiency
   • Ability to operate all vehicles in the fleet, including those equipped for wheelchairs and other special needs transportation.
4. Adaptability And Problem-Solving
   • Must be quick-thinking and versatile in responding to challenges and unexpected situations.
5. Dependability
   • Must maintain a consistent record of reliability, punctuality, and excellent attendance.
6. Support Roles
   • Will assist garage personnel with various tasks as needed.
   • Provide support in office operations, including maintenance of route directions in red books and on road route reviews.
7. Scheduling And Trip Eligibility
   • Must follow the jumper calendar schedule.

Cannot bid on trips scheduled before 9:15 a.m. or before 5:00 p.m.

Education/Certification:

1. High School Diploma or demonstrated ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic.
2. Valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License ("CDL") with necessary endorsements and air brake restrictions lifted.
3. Satisfaction of all State and Federal requirements to drive students and school buses.

Qualifications/Requisite Skills:

1. At least 21 years of age.
2. Excellent driving record (ie: no history of DUI/DWI, no moving violations within the last 5 years, etc.).
3. Working knowledge of the geographical area served by the Pennridge School District Transportation Department and an ability to effectively and safely operate all school district vehicles and equipment including but not limited to wheelchair lifts, special needs equipment and safety equipment.
4. Strong interpersonal skills so as to be able to relate effectively with students of all ages, their parents, school administrators, teachers and other co-workers.
5. Basic understanding of technology. Ability to use district provided email, navigate online trainings as required, and access employee payroll management system.
6. Any additional or alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of School Directors.

Physical Requirements: Choose one of the following.

SEDENTARY: involves sitting most of the time. The incumbent should be able to exert up to 10 lbs of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.

LIGHT WORK: If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the individual sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work. The incumbent should be able to exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

MEDIUM WORK: The incumbent should be able to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects.

HEAVY WORK: The incumbent should be able to exert up to 75 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.

VERY HEAVY WORK: The incumbent should be able to exert in excess of 100 lbs of force occasionally, and in excess of 50 lbs of force frequently, and in excess of 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
