Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Experience An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, they share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create and implement treatment plans Conduct diagnostics Provide dental services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage medical care of patients Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Duration and Eligibility Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
