Machine Operator;

6:00am to 2:30pm

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Set Up: Responsible for accurate set-up of drilling and assembly equipment, hydraulic, arbor and kick presses and Milling machines. Use care to set-up properly, select correct feeds and speeds, maintain tolerances and finishes-(usually +/-.005"); check work accurately; learn to sharpen and reset tools, and make adjustments, etc. Uses blueprints, drawings, design sketches and verbal instruction to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product.

Machine Operation: Use judgment to perform machining operations such as to mill, drill, tap, pin, counter-bore, assemble, spin, broach, etc. on such machines as tapper, drill presses, spinners, etc on a variety of materials. Operate Lathes, Goss, Hause, Robodrill, and Compumill.

Quality Assurance and Procedures: Read and interpret drawings and follow ISO 9001 quality standards and procedures. Read and interpret drawings to ensure proper dimensions, tolerances and revision levels. Perform inspection operations at set-up and at various stages of production in accordance with ISO 9001 quality standards. Refer to shop cards for levels of the finished product and proper routing. Accurately input data into the MRP system before and after each operation and setup.

Tool Crib and Stock Room: Retrieve purchased items from the stock room and properly record transactions. Responsible for proper placement and documentation associated with removing and returning of fixtures, tools, gauges,etc., to and from the crib.

Miscellaneous: Perform a variety of routine operations to move materials in and out of the department, collect and dispose of chips, inspect certain machine operations, and perform such operations as to degrease parts, assemblies, etc., move degreased work and maintain degreasing tank. Monitor and perform preventative maintenance of machinery. Report unusual situations to the foreman. May be assigned incentive work as warranted.

Training: Train Machinist I. Receive training in Hause Machine setup. Attend annual hazardous waste training for instruction in proper handling of Machine Shop waste streams.

Housekeeping: Use care not to mix various metals. Observe good housekeeping practices and prescribed safety precautions.

This position may be required to start at varying times based on the departmental schedules.
