Dialysis Technician
Job Title: Dialysis Technician
Prepares dialysate according to established procedures and patient prescriptions. Obtains and documents pre-dialysis vital signs, including weight and temperature. Inspects patient dialysis access and initiates dialysis according to unit protocol. Measures, calculates, and adjusts blood flow rates based on established protocols. Administers anticoagulant according to protocols and patient prescriptions. Changes fluid removal rates and patient positions and administers Normal Saline as directed. Monitors vital signs and patient condition, documenting observations appropriately. Documents patient treatment parameters and communicates conditions to registered nurses. Monitors patients and equipment, responding to alarms and adjusting treatment parameters as needed. Responds to dialysis-related emergencies and initiates CPR as necessary. Discontinues dialysis and establishes hemostasis following unit protocols. Obtains and records post-dialysis vital signs, including weight and temperature. Verifies absence of residual sterilants; takes samples for testing and prepares them for shipping. Discards dialysis supplies and sanitizes the equipment according to protocols. Communicates emotional, medical, psychosocial, and nutritional concerns to registered nurses when needed. Under the direction of a registered nurse, monitors and instructs patients regarding vascular access. Reinforces treatment care with patients. Ensures patients have adequate supplies and monitors inventories. Assists nursing staff with basic treatments, such as hemodialysis therapy. Maintains professional conduct and good communication skills in patient care. Participates in the multidisciplinary process. Reviews lab work and physician orders. Performs basic clinical procedures as needed. Prepares dialysis equipment before treatment and cares for it after treatment. Tests monitors and machine functions, setting them according to protocols. Completes flow sheets to verify patient billing. Complies with policies and procedures according to regulations for patient care and services. Participates in quality assurance and cost containment programs. Participates in projects as directed by management. Performs other duties as assigned.
