Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site nonprofit organization serving the diverse population of Queens through a broad network of programs for children and youth, adults and families, and older adults.

We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced Activity Specialists to inspire, educate, and engage high school students through dynamic enrichment programming that prepares them for college, careers, and lifelong success.
Queens Community House is seeking energetic and experienced Activity Specialists to develop and facilitate engaging enrichment programs for high school students (Grades 9–12).

Our goal is to expose students to meaningful learning experiences that build confidence, strengthen life skills, and prepare them for success beyond high school.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Facilitation
- Design and facilitate engaging workshops and project-based learning experiences.
- Develop lesson plans aligned with student interests, developmental needs, and program objectives.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
- Encourage creativity, critical thinking, leadership, collaboration, and self-expression.
- Support students in achieving their academic, personal, and career goals.
Student Engagement & Mentorship
- Build positive, supportive relationships with high school students.
- Serve as a mentor and positive role model.
- Encourage student participation, leadership, and personal growth.
- Promote consistent attendance and active engagement.
- Assist students with homework, college preparation, and career exploration when appropriate.
- Coordinate showcases, competitions, field trips, guest speakers, and special events.
Collaboration & Program Support
- Collaborate with Program Directors, school staff, community partners, and families to support student success.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and program documentation.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Assist with program planning, recruitment, outreach, and special initiatives.
- Perform additional program-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Currently enrolled in or have graduated from an accredited college or university.
- Preferred fields of study include: Education, Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Communications, Fine Arts, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience working with teenagers in after-school programs, schools, youth organizations, camps, or community-based settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in the activity area(s) you are applying to teach.
- Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills.
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and inspire high school students.
- Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage diverse groups of students.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Additional Requirements
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- NYC Department of Education (DOE) Fingerprinting and Clearance Review required prior to employment.
