Food Service Worker

Under the general supervision of the Director of Food Services, food service staff prepares, produces, and serves a variety of foods from fresh, canned, dry, or frozen states according to recipes and assists in other related tasks in a designated food service production and/or service area. Essential performance responsibilities include multitasking, operating a computer Point of Sale System, maintaining professional standards as required by the USDA, preparing or assisting in the preparation of a variety of main and side dishes and accompanying menu items, setting up and merchandising food and food service areas, serving food, operating kitchen equipment, utilizing kitchenware, practicing safe food handling, assisting in the monitoring, reduction, and management of food waste, cleaning and sanitizing pots, pans, and kitchen utensils, performing daily, weekly, and monthly deep cleaning of the facility, service areas, and all kitchen equipment, receiving, labeling, and storing food and supplies, and assisting in taking inventory. Must enjoy working with children and adults. Additional duties include performing other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Food Services or Principal.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include methods of preparing and serving a variety of foods, use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils, cleaning and sanitation methods used in a food service environment, food storage methods, basic arithmetic, customer service experience, working rapidly and efficiently, working cohesively with peers, supervisors, school personnel, and students, working in large groups and crowds, applying and maintaining standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and personal hygiene, reading, writing, and communicating in basic English, counting money and making change accurately, and demonstrating customer service skills on an ongoing basis.

Physical and mental demands include safely lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, bending, reaching, and standing for long periods of time, withstanding a wide range of temperatures, working in refrigerated areas, reading and following recipes, learning the proper use of kitchen equipment in a safe and effective manner, and working in standard school cafeteria and kitchen environments.
