About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist for USSOUTHCOM at the Inter-American Defense College in Washington D.C.

Duties

Help

  • Serve as the Director of Strategic Communication and External Relations (STRATCOM/ER) for the Director of the Inter-American Defense College (IADC).
  • Advise management regarding the formulation and articulation of agency policy pertaining to the release of information to the public.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of information and communication programs to continuously improve the organization.
  • Develop and disseminate informational materials to the general public.
  • Implement a strategic communications and engagement program to promote the academic excellence offered at IADC, its programs and activities, and the value of the organization to Western Hemispheric security.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all media sources throughout the community.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1). Develop informational materials to distribute to the public based on the identification of communication needs; 2). Generate awareness among the public through the implementation of strategic outreach programs throughout the community; 3). Assign work to personnel based on priority to meet organizational deadlines; and 4). Ensure the events of distinguished guests' schedules are punctually organized.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14 or above).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).

Education
