QUALIFICATIONS: Requires knowledge, skills, and experience providing person-centered, strength-based medical screenings and assessments, health education and counseling, and mental health screenings and medication management for clients with co-occurring disorders. Must have excellent communication skills and be highly organized. Must be a licensed Registered Nurse in Illinois. Must submit to DHS Schedule L background checks and meet the eligibility requirements for employment. A minimum of 12 months of continuous sobriety required for persons recovering from a substance use disorder. Prior experience in a residential setting desired, but not required. Bilingual preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Medical and Psychiatric Assessment and Services

   1. Review Medical Screenings and Nursing Referrals.

   2. Conduct client physical examinations under the supervision of the medical director.

   3. Consult with the medical director, agency consulting psychiatrist, or client physician for medical and psychiatric treatment recommendations; and coordinate implementation with staff.

   4. Coordinate medical director and consulting psychiatrist visits and appointments.

   5. Coordinate medical director review of medical screenings and physicals.

   6. Coordinate psychiatrist review of client substance abuse diagnosis, initial placement and treatment plan documentation.

   7. Conduct TB tests for clients and staff and document results in client record or in individual employee record.

   8. Together with the Clinical and Medical Directors, maintain updated medical service policies and procedures.

2. Medication Monitoring/Compliance

   1. Train staff and monitor practices to assure compliance with policy and procedure.

   2. Make meds available and supervise others in making meds available.

   3. Monitor med sheets for compliance.

   4. Assist staff and clients in obtaining medications.

   5. Conduct medication education for individuals on all medications they are taking.

3. Opioid Overdose Education and Prevention

   1. Together with the Executive and Clinical Directors maintain updated opioid overdose education and prevention policies and procedures.

   2. Provide Drug Overdose Prevention training for new clinical staff at orientation and refresher training annually.

   3. Document training on the new employee Orientation Checklist, the Overdose Responder Training Log, and Standing Order to Dispense and Administer Naloxone.

   4. Issue certificate of completion.

4. Quality Improvement

   1. Assure compliance with policies and procedures related to medical services as well as safety and infection control.

   2. Participate on Safety and Infection Control Committee.

   3. Evaluate and provide reports on TB testing, medication monitoring, and other medical services.

   4. Compile data on consulting psychiatrist prescriptions for monthly utilization review by Medical Director and submit to Utilization Review Committee.

5. Other

   1. Provide and document the orientation and training of staff on infection control, medical protocols, first aid, and medication control procedures.

   2. Coordinate CPR training.

   3. Conduct medication monitoring and medical services meetings.

   4. Participate in client treatment planning, update reviews, and other care coordination meetings as necessary.

   5. Review hepatitis information with staff in at-risk positions and refer to the Will County Health Department for those who elect to have the vaccination.

   6. Provide crisis intervention services as needed according to policy and procedure.

   7. Coordinate nursing student internships with St Francis, College of DuPage, or other schools.

   8. Participate in Policy and Procedure committee and maintaining SUPR license and CARF accreditation.

   9. Other duties as assigned
