Pharmacist in Charge (PIC)The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is responsible for preparing and dispensing medications while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy. This role requires strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and hands-on retail pharmacy management experience. The PIC will lead pharmacy technicians, manage inventory, ensure compliance, and deliver exceptional patient care.Essential Job FunctionsReview and execute provider prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and legalityDispense medications using correct dosage, formulation, and labelingOrganize pharmacy operations to ensure efficiency and accuracyMaintain full control of medication inventory, including stocking, labeling, and expiration monitoringMaintain and update patient medication profiles and dispensing historyCounsel patients by listening carefully to needs and providing medication guidanceEnsure compliance with HIPAA and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) requirementsEnsure pharmacy and staff compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws and regulationsEnsure compliance with local facility policies and proceduresSupervise Pharmacy Technicians, including:Daily workflow directionSchedulingPerformance feedback and evaluationsEscalation of behavioral or performance concerns to Senior ManagementUtilize pharmacy patient management systems effectivelyPerform additional duties as required to support pharmacy operationsRequired Education & QualificationsDoctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)Active, unrestricted Pharmacist License in the State of Illinois (Required at time of submission — no pending licenses)Excellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong leadership, organizational, and management capabilitiesRequired ExperienceMinimum 3–5 years of retail pharmacy management experiencePrevious leadership experience strongly preferredExperience utilizing pharmacy patient management systemsPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand for prolonged periodsManual dexterity and fine motor skillsFrequent use of hands to handle tools, medications, and equipmentIdeal Candidate Profile3+ years of experience as a Pharmacy Manager / Pharmacist in ChargeStrong retail pharmacy backgroundProven ability to lead and manage pharmacy staffDetail-oriented with strong regulatory and compliance focus
