Barista/Cafe Team Member

POSITION SUMMARY

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving coffee, espresso, and specialty beverages, providing friendly and efficient customer service, and maintaining a clean, well-stocked café area. This role is a key part of the customer's shopping experience and requires energy, attention to detail, and a passion for hospitality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare and serve coffee, espresso drinks, tea, and specialty beverages according to recipe and quality standards
• Greet and engage customers, take accurate orders, and operate the point-of-sale (POS) system
• Handle cash and card transactions accurately and follow cash-handling procedures
• Maintain cleanliness of the café area, equipment, and workstations throughout each shift
• Stock and rotate supplies (cups, lids, syrups, milk, beans, pastries) and monitor inventory levels
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health code standards
• Operate and perform basic maintenance on espresso machines, grinders, and blenders
• Upsell menu items and promote seasonal or featured beverages
• Work collaboratively with other departments and team members to ensure smooth store operations
• Follow all store policies, including uniform, attendance, and break guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 16 years of age (18+ preferred where required by state law)
• Prior barista, food service, or customer service experience preferred but not required - training provided
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask under pressure
• Basic math skills for handling cash and making change
• Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Stand and walk for the duration of a shift (up to [8] hours)
• Lift and carry up to 25-40 lbs (supply boxes, milk crates, bean bags)
• Reach, bend, and work near hot equipment, steam, and sharp tools
• Tolerate exposure to varying temperatures (walk-in coolers, hot beverages)
