MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST I

Medical Laboratory Scientist IThis is medical laboratory work involving the application of independent judgment on a variety of complex laboratory procedures. A valid clinical laboratory license is required. This position has On-Call Assignment responsibilities.Your Specific Responsibilities:Perform and report HIV-1 NAAT testing following established protocol, including performing and recording all quality assurance and quality control requirements for test section.Perform and report Serology testing when required.Participate in initial specimen login, sorting, numbering and centrifuging specimens for HIV testing on a time available basis.Removes the brain from animals to be tested for rabies and prepares and examines it for the presence of rabies virus, using fluorescent microscopy and other staining techniques.Respond to On-Call requirements during weekend or holiday hours as needed to perform rabies testing.Participate in program defined studies as required including sorting, centrifuging, aliquoting, packaging and shipping specimens following guidelines.Perform quality control duties and participate in proficiency testing.Maintain up-to-date inventory of supplies, reagents and media required in test section.Prepare and discard daily medical waste following Bureau of Laboratories Biowaste protocol.Follow BPHL/DOH policies at all times. Attend staff meetings and required training. Perform other lab related duties as required.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing.Knowledge of procedures, techniques and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis.Skill in the use of laboratory equipment.Ability to work independently.Ability to communicate effectively.Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.Qualifications:Minimum - At least qualify for a State of Florida Public Health Technician LicensePreferred - Bachelor's of ScienceWhere You Will Work: Miami, Florida
