Job Classification & Military Fish and Wildlife Technician I-III Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from High School or GED. Experience: Licensure: Applicant must possess a valid State driver’s license; must possess or obtain within 45 days of employment a National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Firefighter, Type II (FFT2) certification. Retention contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license and certification. Physical Requirements: Must pass the Wildland Fire Work Capacity Test at the “Arduous” level (walk 3 miles with 45 lb. pack in 45 minutes or less) at time of interview or provide documentation of completion with a partnering NWCG agency within the last 6 months. Retention contingent upon meeting and maintaining physical requirements. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Two years of work experience in natural resource management, farm or ranch operations, building maintenance, vehicle repairs, heavy equipment operation, and/or maintenance; experience in prescribed fire operations. Current NWCG FFT2 certification. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of wildlife and natural resources management and restoration practices Knowledge of basic first aid, CPR and emergency procedures Knowledge of outdoor skills Effective verbal and written communication Operation of farming and ranching machinery and heavy equipment (tractors, skid steers, mulchers) Operation of ORVs and ATVs Use of trailers to transport equipment Using GPS units and mobile technology to navigate and collect data Establishing and maintaining work relationships Grounds maintenance activities (mowing, weed eating) Planning, coordinating, and organizing work Maintaining records, purchasing documentation, and writing correspondence Repair and maintenance of equipment (farm equipment, vehicles, trailers, small engines) Teamwork and independence as needed Flexibility with interruptions and changing priorities Travel to varied locations with little notice Ability to perform manual labor (lifting up to 50 lbs.) Operate state vehicles; maintain equipment Working Conditions Schedule: 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may require holidays, weekends, and non-standard hours Adjust to changing schedules and travel up to 75% with possible overnight stays Work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions Residence in shared housing when traveling Dress, grooming, safety procedures adherence Stand for extended periods Spay herbicide with a 5-gallon backpack sprayer for up to 8 hours a day Operate chainsaw and leaf blower for up to 8 hours a day Manual labor including lifting up to 50 lbs Operate state vehicle Non-smoking environment in state buildings and vehicles #J-18808-Ljbffr
