Chaplain - Full Time, Days Religious Services Patchogue, NY • Full-Time/Regular NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices. Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Chaplain - Full Time, Days - Patient Experience and Culture - 8:00AM - 4:00PM Monday - Friday. In this role, the successful candidate will provide spiritual care to patients, their loved ones, and as appropriate, staff and constituencies using an inter-faith model of care and working within the patient's belief and value system. Job Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned. Assess patient and family spiritual needs and assists patients and families in using their spiritual resources in dealing with illness, trauma, and stress. Facilitate additional spiritual/religious support from community religious leaders, including specific sacramental or religious needs. Develop plan of care and provide spiritual/emotional support to patients and families, including, but not limited to: listening, providing presence, prayer, reading sacred texts, ethical guidance, and sacraments. Advise manager of important patient/clinical issues as they arise. Respond to codes and traumas when designated as on-call chaplain. Promote an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care among all chaplains. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, when possible, and facilitate communication between health care team members. Maintain a positive working relationship between the Pastoral Care Department and medical and nursing staff, and other departments. Serve on institutional committees as appointed. Provide support to staff, as individuals request it, or through participation in institutional events such as Nurses Week or when groups request it after traumatic events and loss. Document all chaplaincy activities in a timely manner according to department protocols. Complete office or administrative tasks as assigned with expectation of computer literacy and in accordance with institutional policy. Plan and lead worship opportunities, including interfaith memorial services, as assigned by department manager. Lead bereavement and spirituality/study/support groups as assigned by the manager. Participate in the departments plan for continuous quality improvement. Ensure a safe environment and effective communication with all age groups of patients served by the Pastoral Care Department. Adhere to Standards of Practice of the Association of Professional Chaplains and the principles and practices of Outcome Oriented Chaplaincy. Function in such a manner that reflects the mission and vision of the institution. Mentor CPE student and volunteers, as assigned by the manager, and where appropriate. Contribute to the wider community through publication, teaching, and research. Participate in teaching/lecturing on a regular or periodic basis as invited. Participate in regular professional development activities and supervision. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Master of Divinity degree, Master of Arts in Religion, or Master of Pastoral Counseling from an accredited school of theology or Ordination required. Successful completion of at least 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education recognized by the US Department of Education required. 1-2 Years Clergy or chaplain experience required. The salary range for the role is $48,988.12 - $76,902.52 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
