Summary Eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – student loan payment reimbursement program must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval – award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Recruitment Incentive authorized. Qualifications United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA-approved school. Current – full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or D.C. Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency may be ACGME‑, AOA‑, or other U.S. residency followed by a minimum of five years of verified U.S. practice. Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) – residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet basic requirements can be appointed as PRPs with a scope of practice under supervision. PRPs must have a fully licensed physician status and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred: Successful completion of an accredited fellowship in hematology/oncology. Board certification (preferred) or board eligibility in hematology/oncology. Physical requirements: must meet light lifting (≤15 lb), light caring, reaching above shoulder, use of both hands, walking, standing, and hearing aid if needed. Duties Perform clinical duties for hematology/oncology patients, including history and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting EKG, imaging, and laboratory studies. Provide telemedicine and e‑consult services. Manage general medical conditions encountered in hematology/oncology care. Admit patients to inpatient or appropriate level of care. Initiate and administer chemotherapeutic agents via all therapeutic routes. Assess tumor imaging by CT, MR, PET, and nuclear imaging; serially measure tumor mass; perform bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. Participate in palliative care consultations. Adhere to VA Providence Healthcare Systems privileges, ensuring sufficient staff and equipment. Maintain a full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory. Participate in CME with possible reimbursement up to $100 per year (must be full‑time with board certification). Meet the following schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Benefits Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – eligible for up to $200,000 over one to five years; former participants ineligible.
