Assistant Tennis Coach

Overview This position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach with organizing and instructing the Tennis program at the School. The position assists with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student-athletes on game strategies and techniques in preparation for competition. Reports to: Head Coach, Athletic Director Supervises: None Essential Duties Assists the Head Coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach Assesses players\' skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students Reports student concerns to the Head Coach Assists with determining game strategy Assists the Head Coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete\'s injury Models good sportsmanship in behavior, maintains appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators Maintains the equipment room in an orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach Assists the Head Coach with end-of-season awards Participates in special activities to include parents night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records May drive students to away games; assure student transportation procedures are followed Additional Duties Maintains required coaching certifications Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or administrator Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education High School Experience Experience as an assistant coach or varsity player at the high school or college level preferred, or any satisfactory combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties listed. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, and smell. The employee must occasionally lift push, or pull up to 50 pounds, and bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, squat, kneel, twist, or bend. Specific vision abilities include near and far vision within the normal range, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus Work Environment The typical working environment is in an indoor school classroom, gymnasium, locker room, or outdoor athletic facility with exposure to varying climatic conditions. Duties may occasionally be performed on field trips away from school, with varying conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be loud at times.
