Registered Nurse (RN) - Ortho/Joint (Part-Time)

Overview Sentara Health is hiring an RN to work at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on the Ortho/Joint 3 West Unit. The position is part‑time (24 hrs) and scheduled for nights. Job Description Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, patient‑centered care in a dynamic orthopaedic setting. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, developing individualized care plans, delivering treatments, and supporting patients and families with education and compassionate service. The RN collaborates within an interdisciplinary team to monitor patient progress, adjust clinical interventions, and advocate for optimal outcomes while ensuring safety and adherence to evidence‑based practices. Department/Position Overview The 3 West Ortho unit is a 12‑bed unit that handles a variety of post‑operative procedures, including total hip, knees, shoulders, ankles, and spine. The unit sees 10–20+ surgical admissions and discharges per week, resulting in a fast patient turnover. Most patients are admitted via elective procedures, allowing for predictable care plans focused on pain management, physical therapy, and monitoring post‑operative complications. The unit emphasizes mobility and independence to reduce overall patient care demands. Working Environment The unit fosters teamwork among nurses, encouraging collaboration for daily tasks and providing support for new nurses. The close relationship with dedicated Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and orthopaedic surgical groups enhances timely care without disrupting workflow. The manager is hands‑on and approachable. Staff activities like music listening and casual gatherings help maintain a positive atmosphere. Requirements ADN required; BSN or higher preferred. Valid VA or compact state RN license in good standing. Experienced or new‑grads welcome.
