Engineers in Micron's Surface Lab perform physical, mechanical, and thermal characterization of semiconductor materials, devices, and packages to support technology development, advanced packaging, and high-volume manufacturing.

This role requires strong laboratory skills, attention to data quality, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering customers, tool vendors, and cross-functional partners.

In this role, you will be expected to prioritize quality & rigor, collaboration, continuous learning, communication, and safety.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform routine physical and thermal characterization of semiconductor materials and products in support of internal development and manufacturing customers.

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to meet cycle-time and quality expectations

• Analyze samples, interpret results, and author clear, accurate technical reports

• Provide day-to-day customer support for engineering and manufacturing teams

• Ensure compliance with lab SOPs, safety requirements, and information security policies

• Support vendor interactions, tool qualifications, and preventative maintenance activities

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry , or a closely related field

• Hands-on laboratory experience with scientific or engineering instrumentation

• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

• Effective written and verbal communication

• Flexibility to support manufacturing and rotating shift work

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with physical, mechanical, or thermal characterization, such as:

• Thermal metrology

• Mechanical or warpage characterization

• Physical or dimensional metrology

• Semiconductor package or device characterization

• Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication or manufacturing environments

• Experience with data analysis, statistics, or project management tools
