Disease Investigation & Control Specialist I/II - Bilingual (Spanish)

Public Health Division – Disease Investigation & Control Specialist I/II The Health and Human Services Agency Public Health Division is seeking a dedicated and detail‑oriented professional to perform specialized duties in the investigation, identification, surveillance, and prevention of communicable diseases. The selected candidate will conduct field interviews, review laboratory and medical reports, collect case information, conduct contact tracing, work collaboratively with healthcare providers and multi‑professional teams, and provide education on disease prevention and control. Investigate assigned cases under the direction of licensed public health nursing staff. Perform field interviews and data collection. Receive and verify laboratory and morbidity reports against established case definitions. Collect case information from health care providers or population groups using surveillance techniques. Conduct investigation interviews and contact tracing related to infectious, communicable, and atypical disease events. Provide consumer education on infectious disease causality, transmission, and preventive/control methods. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a detail‑oriented public health professional with experience in communicable disease investigation, accurate completion of vital records, strong documentation and judgement skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with coroners, funeral homes, hospitals, laboratories, and healthcare providers. Minimum Qualifications Equivalence to a bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biological sciences, environmental sciences, health education, or a closely related field. For Specialist II: two (2) years of professional disease investigation experience or one (1) year of equivalent experience at the Specialist I level. License and certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License by time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record. Ability to speak and read Spanish in addition to English. Spanish bilingual candidates may be eligible for differential pay of $1.00 per hour, conditional on demonstrated proficiency.
